Cataloguing the Rare Books collection: school prizes and theย imagination One of the most interesting aspects of cataloguing a Rare Book collection is imagining the journey each item has taken from its publication to the Archives strongrooms, especially when the book has been donated to the library rather than having been bought by the University for a specific course of study. Donations can range in quantity from thousands of books and pamphlets which may form a particular Special Collection (such as the Cope Collection) to one or two additions to the general library stock.

He has a moustache and is wearing a kilt, waistcoat and jacket as well as a sporran and tam o'shanter and is standing on one leg with one arm raised and the other on his hip. Behind him on the ground is the shadow of an unseen person, and further away, a man is sitting on a garden bench bending over talking to a small child.
