Looks fab.

I want him to have a go at toad in the hole and succeed 😀

It’s great when they get passionate about something and are good at it too

A product of the 60/70’s and we’re quite cost effective

I’ve been in your shoes and can confirm the sense of satisfaction when you rip one out

You get basic insurance and then choose to add to it. It’s not perfect and I didn’t say it was

Maybe we should look more closely at the Australian or European systems

By law, basic health coverage has to be included with every employment visa. The Hospital that they’d use is the same one my boss was rushed too when he broke his hip on a visit

No single rooms etc but the care was first class still. - he was fixed and home within 10 days

For comparison, out electricity and water bill was double that, our rent was £100k and school fees were £20k per child. So 5k for a westerner is nothing because wages are so much higher

We liked it and miss being there, our friend circle was people who’d been there a while. Away from Dubai Bling it had lots to offer if you looked

It was still considered a hardship posting when we moved which was reflected in the wages

For a Westerner aged 50 access to all UAE hospitals and worldwide EXCEPT USA. Used to cost me £5k per year which was pretty reasonable

It’s a good system for run of the mill operations. Hip replacement and the like are very fast. Basic insurance is provided with your visa

The insurance model falls down for chronic illness like cancer- coverage is only 8/12 month and premiums rise stupidly

FFS. The block button going to get used heavily again

I tried to get away from everyone posting the same image or quote as happens on the other place

But no, you can’t play nicely and my follow tab is full of Trump shit

So it you suddenly can’t see me, you know why

Actual background quote from the No10 press office: "Fuck off, you idiots, we are not running a Bluesky feed to garner clicks by losing our shit at every stupid thing Trump does, and nor are we supporting your social media engagement stats by doing so."

Most of the Nurses on the Chemo day ward read the DM. and some had strong views on immigrants- despite lots of overseas nurses

Chemo was bad enough without listening to that shit

I’ve paid for my own web address, which then gives email hosting. I pay £230 a year

Then all my emails can function with outlook. Gmail would drive me insane

They did take that approach on their delivery systems As do ESA virgin blue origin etc etc

You’re not an engineer are you? Pray tell how you would test delivery systems

You’ve also forgotten the space shuttle’s raining down debris on the US when they went bang

FAA removing flight permit until after investigation is normal practice

They still captured the 1st stage which is an astonishing achievement

You can despise Musk while still appreciating and being in awe of Space X technical achievements - well as an Ex aerospace engineer I certainly can

It always costs more than you think, depending on so many factors. Obv material costs have skyrocketed but the shortage of skilled tradespeople means they get to charge higher rates

I know on our jobs £100k doesn’t go far

Hope the cold hasn’t got you too bad. Missing my daily Harry fix (Jess and boo too)

Hopefully you’re getting lots of kitty cuddles

I really don’t get the stigma about OF People do make and can earn serious money. There was a podcast discussion, one woman earned £42k from pictures of her feet

Neither MPs, Peers nor civil servants have enough knowledge to allow them to be part of the process

They should agree the budget and project scope then step well back

It’s not a particularly taxing civil work’s refurbishment

Day of tough decisions. We agreed that my body isn’t strong enough for chemo now (I knew this in my heart)

So 2025 for me is to manage my symptoms at home and stay comfortable.

It’s time

Such a girl thing to wake you’re partner up to pass on some information immediately!

My wife does that to me too. I’m not a morning person in the slightest

I don’t hold a grudge against her though

I doubt I’ll get to see next Christmas

And it won’t directly affect them either

I feel it won’t raise the published revenue nor benefit majority of state pupils. If I were still using private for my kids’ I’d dig a bit deeper like others will do. The advantages still outweigh the disadvantages

I suppose 1 type of charging lead is helpful. But with the song and dance they’re making you’d have thought they’d unified all domestic 230v outlets so we don’t have the waste of multiple types being shipped (because people are too dumb to wire a plug)

Be grateful- in the Middle East they just drive with their hazards on (and no lights)

Reminds of the time my wife did a fast pack after a night out for a Week working in Brisbane.

At check in when her case only weighed 10kg she suspected she might have missed a few things

*everything*

No it isn’t a tiny increase since the threshold where it becomes applicable was dropped significantly

Any decent company will be advance forecasting the implications to their P&L and making appropriate decisions now

Within STEM, there will always be a need for Uni degrees at certain levels. Equally I’m a big fan of degree apprenticeships and think they produce a more rounded individual. Certainly one with more usable experience

That attitude prevailed before Thatcher. My teachers (except 1) looked down on me wanting to be a mechanic & actively tried to prevent it

That was in the early 80s.Since the 90s with some slight career changes I’ve always earned above 6 figures in practical engineering & design roles with no degree
