I say this as someone who loves technology but hates the tech industry - why do we have to love technology? why do we have to give something like AI clemency for its errors? It's a product we are being sold, it should have to earn our money or attention.

I've written the story and script for my own comics for 5+ years.
Broke myself crunching before Comiket on several occasions.

I learned how to be better at my craft, and met people. I liked working with others.

It's horrid to create alone, in a void, and slop machines are a void.

The legitimately innovative thing about AI is that it is a completely bottomless pit. It's swallowed up:

- all energy sources
- all our data
- all investment dollars
- all new jobs
- all capex
- all attention
- and now, all hardware components

with absolutely no end in sight. Nothing will satisfy.

Reporting on this with anything but seething critique is journalistic malpractice.

That said, I don't see much use for a software service, that relies on cloud infrastructure, to spit out images (based on stolen data) for a prompter. I imagine this is similar in most creative fields.

I stand by my opinion that everyone claiming to not understand why anyone is against genAI in TYoOL 2026, or that anyone against it is just a hysteric incapable of reason, is a fucking faker.

I am starting a studio! We are small and scrappy and have no money. Why am I doing this? Because the only ones who can protect art are the ones who value it. Disney using AI? Yuck. Netflix buying WB? Also yuck. In 10 years what is even going to be left.

They're services, like fast food joints, where numbskulls go with their written ideas as prompts, and offer them on a platter to corpos, getting mediocre slop extruded off stolen actual creative human effort in return.

it's hilarious, and sad, there are still people ignorant enough that, 3 years in, they'd foolishly compare slop image spitting service bots to ... programs that took pains to allow artists to use their drawing techniques in digital form.

"ai" by which I mean slop engines, are not tools.
They're a SERVICE offered by big corpos, off stolen content.

-They can be taken away like any service, at the corpo's convenience;
