I read the WSITY transcript of the interview with JB and what a disaster. WSITY does deserve credit for trying to get JB to address cuts to NIH funding, and for their (ineffectual) perseverance while he Gish-galloped.

But the interviewers did not have the expertise needed to counter his lies.

Here’s what podcast Jay was was podcasting about earlier this week.

Jay Bhattacharya saying “there is no cure for measles, which is why prevention is so critical.”

Jay Bhattacharya saying “the MMR vaccine remains the most reliable and effective way to prevent it.”

Bhattacharya saying “vaccination protects not only individuals, but entire communities.”

You know what? No notes, Jay.

I don’t doubt he believes this.

Bhattacharya didn’t embrace anti-vax nonsense until it served his political, anti-public agenda.

That said, he really did he embrace that world.

Still, he has tended to fall back on sorta defending the MMR to appear more credible.

A spokesperson for the FDA sent a statement after publication: "All of Dr Prasad's videos, that were illegally taken and published by another party, remain available for all to watch on YouTube. Publishing someone else's videos without modification or commentary is a clear copyright violation. The mission of Johnathan Howard was not medical transparency, but personal profit by grifting and stealing someone else's intellectual property."

I just received a message from an HHS representative asking me to correct an article about Vinay Prasad to reflect this change to a @wsj.com article I discussed.

Of course I did so. Accuracy is priority #1.

Meanwhile, Prasad lied and smeared me in the press with no correction or apology. 🤷‍♂️

All Thacker has is juvenile insults against this “deranged activist” and his, check notes, accurate information.

Podcast Jay is clear he will censor research he personally deems ideologically impure.

@michaeldgreen.phd is doing a wonderful job making clear how early career researchers are facing censorship because this administration is prioritizing their political ideology over scientific merit

Mocking and deliberately undermining American doctors who desperately tried to sound alarm bells about MAHA was professional?

After 6 years of telling people not to trust the CDC, Podcast Jay is trying to reverse course now that it’s his job to stop measles.

Too bad.

He was a master at spreading doubt, utterly incompetent at restoring it and children are suffering as a result.

As Trump 2.0 was ramping up covering this was one of their top priorities. The Times often does A+ reporting. But its problems are those of priorities, omissions and framing rather than outright factual errors.

To the extent he made good points they were bland pablum like “schools should be open” or “we need more RCTs.”

Easy to say those words.

But how’s he doing with real power, not just podcasting?
