China asserts green energy leadership, as Trump dismisses climate ‘con job’ China on Wednesday pledged its first-ever emissions reduction target. Some analysts said the U.S. retreat makes it easier for China to look good by comparison.

In this most ambitious scenario, coal power generation is projected to peak at 5.55 trillion kWh, and power sector carbon emissions are expected to peak at 5.2 billion tonnes in 2025, then enter a plateau. This is up to 160 million tonnes lower than all three other scenarios .

Our report outlined four power transition scenarios for China. Among them, Scenario 3—featuring high-efficiency electrification and accelerated non-fossil energy deployment—emerges as the most effective for ensuring power decarbonisation, energy security, and economic feasibility.

Chinese banks need to provide diversified financial mechanisms to realize this investment, improve insurance policies for renewable energy projects, and standardize ESG disclosure and coordination with financial institutions.

This week, China said it would cooperate in building 10 GW of solar and 10 GW of wind power capacity overseas in the next five years.

In practice, achieving this will require troubleshooting structural barriers that limit Chinese enterprises’ overseas renewable energy investment.

By 2025, China's #power sector is expected to achieve its carbon #peak. As the country moves into the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), China should further reduce the proportion of #coal power in the electricity system while significantly increasing the contribution of renewable energy.

#China highlighted today that in 2025 H1, its newly added electricity generation from wind and solar exceeded the incremental growth in #electricity consumption. This indicates that China's #renewable energy capacity can fully meet the additional electricity demand.

How to future-proof China’s grid? China’s electricity supplies are generally stable today, but extreme weather and renewables integration are growing challenges.

With China’s rapid expansion of #renewables, it is increasingly likely that by 2025, all new #electricity demand could be met by renewables. Achieving this goal will require the grid to integrate renewables more effectively and enhance its #climate resilience.
