Hybridization in extant species can be a pain to study as it is, but the idea of that extinct species could've been hybridizing sounds like a literal nightmare.

The oldest European depiction of a gar I have found so far from a map of 'New France' circa 1612. In 1609, Samuel de Champlain previously reported seeing a 'Chaousarou' (the Iroquois name) in Lake Champlain, and the written description fit that of a gar. 1/2

Sharks DO get cancer, as in this Great White observed in 2014 near Australia.

Every vertebrate species, with long enough observation, will display cancerous growth, because cancer is "baked-in" to multicellularity & the capacity for growth.

Rates vary by species, but *cancer is a constant*.

I am opposed to AI products and services because of the extra power they require... IN A CLIMATE CRISIS. I am opposed to AI results - texts and illustrations - because they've been created unethically, via theft and non-consensual use of the work of others. Share if you agree.
