Packed up the kids, hit the road, beat the blizzard, now- we float around the lazy river for a few days, IGNORE outlook/teams, and a much much needed mental break.

Wish you were here bestie.

Buckle up, buttercups! We are going on a ride.

Let's talk about LTSS! Specifically, home care/HCBS(my favorites) and why we really need to sound the alarm and keep watch on this.

LTSS: long term services/supports
HCBS: Home/Community based services

VA plans to seek public guardianship for some veterans deemed unable to care for themselves The effort will extend to hundreds of veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness but lack family support or legal representation.

I don’t know fam it feels like giving the government guardianship over unhoused veterans and forcing them into institutions might be bad.

Thanks to @heritagehunter.bsky.social for the heads up.

Something that is often forgotten, not intentionally, but just is- the role of caregivers and how truly difficult and exhausting it is. And it is nonstop.

It’s heartbreaking what’s happened and is happening 💔

It was never a secret that DJT hated people with disabilities, but this is exceptionally cruel.

I worry that the foundation has been laid to claim that HCBS/Home Care costs "more".

We need to advocate LOUDER for these marginalized groups. We can't let this happen.

occur from this is astronomical.

This has never been about fiscal efficiency. If it were, we'd be expanding into a M4A system.

This has always been about this psychotic shitbird wanting to bring back forced institutionalism.

I really struggle to express adequately how fucking despicable this is.

If these programs are gone, people with disabilities, including children, will be forced out of their homes and into institutions.

They will be segregated from their families and communities.

This will literally rip families apart. (Also, let's mention that there is now a moratorium

Home care programs allow people of all ages to live at home, with their families, when they require a complex level of care.

HCBS programs help with personal care, personal development, transportation, job training, adult care programs- SO much that Medicaid normally won't cover but are CRUCIAL

If the administration is able to come up with numbers that show it's less cost effective, the HCBS waivers are gone. Home care is gone. So, what does that mean?

First and foremost, I want to stress that while Medicaid is required to cover institutionalized LTSS, home care and HCBS services are optional programs provided by the state and funded by Medicaid. Usually through various waiver programs.

The reason this is important- Home care and HCBS waivers

In September, two doctors stood at the White House and declared that they, and only they, had the courage to recommend leucovorin as a treatment for autism. New prescriptions doubled.

Today, the FDA refused to endorse it as a treatment for autism, saying there weren’t enough data to support it.
