Maybe other practical devs/coding projects? When I was that age I tried some tinkering/soldering kits, like door alarm to my room and such. But it's hard to guess what his interests are, is it only robots?

Same same here. Wanted Tyson to destroy Paul. I have nothing for Paul, for me he is just mentally deranged Youtuber.
But never I'd put in the money to see it. And in retrospect I'm glad I didn't, Netflix had issues the whole game through.
It's sad he lost.

I've just posted also about mine project, and find it a bit limiting with so few characters to write, making a bigger project a bit messy to post here 😄.

Making the heater just a tad bit smarter.

so I soldered two wires to that button and pulled them to the relay connected to the NodeMCU. Set it up with ESPHome in Home Assistant. and can now monitor and reset in Home Assistant even when away from home and also getting notifications to my phone via PushBullet.

Had an NodeMCU and relay just waiting to be used. Smashed that together with an mains-to-12VDC ans buck converter. NodeMCU listening to the heaters alarm relay. For the reset I normally have to push a button on the heater panel

Finally pulled myself together and put together a simple monitor-and-reset-device.
My 18 years old not-at-all-smart-heater is a bit buggy; intermittently trips the internal thermal resetable fuse.
