Like clockwork.
“A country that can instantly fund endless wars but debates every dime for healthcare and education doesn't have a budget issue--it has a values issue."
A billion dollars a day going towards the war in Iran so far.
Last summer in Positano, the skies opened and a biblical downpour turned the streets into rushing rivers, drenching the hordes of summer-dress wearing Instagram influencers and ruining their Limoncellos. Absolute scenes. I could not stop laughing. I think I might be a chaos demon.
This is Inishtrahull, a small island above my home county of Donegal. The last inhabitants left in 1929; the lighthouse keepers moved away in 1987. Its rocks are the oldest in Ireland, at 1.8 billion years old. That’s the age I feel when I read the current news cycle.
Seamus Heaney was right, poetry is strong enough to help in moments of crisis.
If you want to clear the ground for a generational upheaval, perhaps don’t start it with a Bloody Sunday of their school children. newrepublic.com/post/207199/...
The King's Fort • Derry
This is one of the best preserved ringforts in Ulster. It likely dates to some time between the 6th—12th century.
It is situated on the southern slopes of Benbradagh, commanding spectacular views over Drumsurn in County Derry.

We’re at the cosplaying colonists of yore section of the MAGA extinction burst.
But there’s no second Troy to sack or burn.
The Great Hunger was the biggest social disaster of the 19 century in Europe. It killed as many people as a low level nuclear strike. It was the cause of unprecedented mass migration. Stay and starve - or leave and hope to survive. British imperialism/exploitation was to blame.
Take Irelands name out of your mouth when you want to rationalize white supremacy. The Irish didn’t come to America to share their culture. They came fleeing destitution and starvation in their homeland, courtesy of the kind of imperial power you now fetishize. We don’t forget.
When I was a boy I wanted a pink Rolls Royce that could fly but The New York Times didn’t write a story about it.
Alex Pretti's parents keep a box crammed with 200 letters and cards that have poured into their Denver home since their son was shot and killed by immigration agents.
"He's my first born," Susan Pretti said. "He's the one that made me a mother. There was no reason he should have died that day."
It’s unusual to see the apotheosis of someone’s life in a picture, but this may well be Pam Bondi’s. I have a feeling this image will come to haunt and define her (and the second Trump presidency) in American history.
Can you still call it a culture war if one sides unarmed?
Lots of non-Black people #onhere today saying that "everyone" will move on from the fascist in chief's anti-Black post in a couple of days. I am wondering if Black people are included in the "everyone" or if you just mean yourselves.
“Renee Goodman [sic], Alex Pretti – there are no words,” DeLauro said.
“You said there were no words after the murder of those two individuals,” said Rev. Jack Perkins Davidson. “I think the words are ‘Abolish ICE.’”

From the Gettysburg Address to racist shitposting, good going America, you played yourselves.
How many last straws will Americans endure?
Irish people and Black people were both portrayed as inferior, sub-human species’ by American nativists in the 19 century, as this illustration reminds us. Can you imagine if Abraham Lincoln had endorsed and publicly posted what Trump just did? The scale of our national decline is measured by this.
After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.
I have a question. How come none of you are going to down there to get him
I wrote about my childhood friend Alexi Pretti. Please read it and share it and remember him as a human being. @theverge.com
People yelled at her for this.
Coming soon: a new documentary exploring how Yellow Magic Orchestra influenced British synthpop, new wave, and the New Romantic movement, and how ideas travelled between Japan and the UK in the early 1980s.
Walz: "What's happening in MN defies belief. News reports simply don't do justice to the level of chaos & disruption & trauma the federal govt is raining down... This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"
This is Minneapolis:
Walk into my neighborhood ACE last night & see the signage on their door notifying fed agents that it’s private property and cannot be used for immigration enforcement. These signs are all over the city.
Walk in & the nearest shelf has goggles & whistles.
BREAKING: Nearly 15,000 New York City nurses are now on strike at Mount Sinai, Montefiore, and New York Presbyterian.
It's the largest nurses' strike in NYC history.
Its not that the media is not covering what is happening, but it does feel like the military occupation of an American city should be treated as a national crisis.
