I remember following Evan Tanner's blog before he died, including his post assuring people he knew what he was doing before his desert trip that killed him.

I now think about that when I see travel Youtube channels I follow going to dangerous parts of the world.

Getting an large influx of followers seemingly randomly makes me go 🤔🤨

I've been to Las Vegas twice for work in the last decade. Both times the highlight of the trip was leaving the city and doing something outdoors. Either hiking or Mountain Biking.

The actual time on the strip was mostly meh or terrible.

As a millennial is so funny to see which people from high school are trying to be influencers on social media, and which have absolutely nothing online at all.

Thats rhetorical, I’m just truly surprised a modern app was built that requires downtime maintenance.

WTF happened to Sonos? For years these speakers just worked. They were tech for non-techies.

Now they just stop working randomly and me as a techie can barely get them to function. It’s so frustrating!

Great conversation and it reminded be of a similar analogy I’ve had in my head for awhile, great players rarely make great coaches. Similarly the best software engineers rarely make good managers. Above average athletes and engineers usually can bridge that gap in a way the best struggle with.

It’s one of those mornings where I needed to coffee to make coffee.

I forgot to pour the coffee grounds from the grinder into the filter before turning on the machine.

I was very disappointed that I had to make the pot again with coffee when I thought I was about to drink coffee ☕️ 😒

Its been over a decade since I have had a company ask for references or been asked to be a reference.

Many places don’t even give references out of a fear of being sued. They’ll only say you worked there and for how long.

It is quite jarring to have a narrator switch deep in an audiobook series and now several main character’s names are being pronounced completely differently.

These US “friendly” F1 race times are annoying.

I miss the UK friendly times where I could watch qualifying & the race with my coffee. I have too many other family obligations during the day.

Had my first but definitely not last personal experience with tariffs yesterday.

I ordered some football shirts from the UK and was prompted at checkout that I will have to pay a 10% tariff to the shipper upon arrival 😒

Its something I want that I cant get from the US so 🤷‍♂️

One was a hospital where after insurance paid they owe us a small refund. Apparently you have to catch that and explicitly request it yourself.

Had to call multiple customer service lines today 😭

I try to be understanding since I worked in a call center in college. But it really feels like they have to avoid confirming anything now. Multiple reps for completely different issues ended with “someone else will follow-up with you”

If thats a possible alternative to so-called over-diagnosis and over-medicating, then they can keep it.

He also struggled with depression, overeating, alcohol and substance abuse. Looking back he had many aspects of RSD as well.

All of these struggles lead to a self-inflicted passing in his late 40s.

Its makes me wonder what the chances are that my dad had undiagnosed ADHD.

He dropped out of school in 8th grade, but worked his way up to a becoming boat captain. Which took an immense amount of work and study.

The negative discourse around “over diagnosis” of ADHD is pretty infuriating as someone who was late-diagnosed once I had a kid getting diagnosed.

ADHD is having something I literally buy every week at the grocery store, then going to the grocery store twice over the weekend and not buying it because I didn’t put it on my list 🫠

I tip for takeout, no issues there.

But asking for a tip when I order through a kiosk? who is getting that?

Also a meal prep store I shop at has suggested tip like a restaurant.

These things make want to avoid the business because it feels like they aren’t paying their employees fairly.

I tend to be a pretty generous tipper. It comes from working in the service industry when I was younger and growing up with lots of family working in restaurants.

BUT the expansion of tipping culture in US is starting to make me very conflicted.

I think the consensus is publication order.

I just finished book 4 and Im enjoying the flow and how it builds the story jumping around chronologically.

Having a 17yo makes me channel Red Foreman so much 😒

I’ve been reading the Vlad Taltos series after it was recommended by a friend.

It’s not my favorite, but it is enjoyable and refreshing to read 200-300pg fantasy books after reading so many 500-1500pg contemporary fantasy books.

I think I’m slowly falling out of love with Sanderson’s fantasy 🤷‍♂️

Wasn’t the internet and craigslist the bigger financial hit for local papers? The loss of classifieds revenue changed funding dramatically. Then the general drop in readership.

It’s always those other people.

I remember calling out a friend on FB once for posting some BS shaming a woman for what he saw her buying with SNAP at a gas station. But I also knew he was actively abusing unemployment (fraud) at that exact time 😒

Pre-covid this was pretty standard even for fully remote roles. Some part of the interview, or at the very least onboarding, was done IRL.
