I try not to watch it too much tho because I feel like a good amount of the interest comes from returning to it after a while and feeling out how many own experiences have changed my perspective on the conversation.

"My Dinner With Andre" is sort of my comfort film because it reminds me a lot back when I did theater and the people you'd meet and work with, and the conversations you'd have and anxieties you'd share about your art and life.

Tbh what I genuinely love about Anno and other directors of his kind is just how un-subtle they are about their influences and putting it in their own work. I feel like a lot of creatives and the audience are too hostile to wearing your inspiration openly when everyone is copying others to an extent

Speaking more to my artistic interests End of Evangelion is probably my favorite anime film, if not Eva 3.0+1.0. My problem with choosing between the two is that the latter is so much a followup to the whole franchise that I can't imagine it without that foundational context.

Alright, I'll try to ramble: I tend to say "The Empire Strikes Back" is my favorite movie because the Star Wars trilogy were some of the first movies I saw when I was 5 and basically changed the trajectory of my life. Watching it again last year really cemented how good it is to me.

That would be pretty hard for me to do but I suppose I can always try! Tbh I still dunno if I really have a favorite film; it's hard to decide on one.

I thought I got better about being confident in my own interests but I clammed up at work when asked what my favorite movie is and I'm still pretty bad at recommending things to other people.

Making jokes while streaming about Mario using his powers to teleport and turn back time as if anyone in the chat would understand me referencing an ancient Let's Play.

That last bit is probably the most incredible thing about it, really. Mario's first foray into 3D ends up being so tight and well executed that it ends up writing all the rules of how you engage with a 3D game forever, and still manages to do it better than games that came well after it. Incredible.

Super Mario 64: It's Mario 64! It basically defined the concept of the 3D camera and movement forever! There's not really anything new I can add to the conversation: It's absolutely foundational and still a blast to play 30 years later! Genuinely incredible they got so much right the first time.
