I've made a start and a work in progress. As ever, recommendations welcome. I'll add hashtags for the new season. I shouldn't be in it but it is default as the creator!

Of course, what they mean by freedom is their freedom to do whatever they want to other people. Not our freedom to complain about it.

McCarthyism is back with a vengeance on both sides of the Atlantic, with major government clampdowns on people challenging official narratives. Yet we hear not a peep from those who get so exercised about students not wanting fascists to speak at universities. Cos that's the real threat, isn't it?

FCC chair threatens to throttle news broadcasts over ‘hoaxes’ about Iran war Brendan Carr posts that he may cancel spectrum permits of ‘mainstream news’ outlets for ‘misleading’ coverage

Funny how all the "free speech" warriors go so quiet when actual state censorship comes along.

'Dubai is finished': Expats say they will leave and never come back Once a tax-free haven attracting influencers from across the globe and Brits seeking warm weather, Dubai's carefully crafted image has been shattered and residents believe it is 'finished'.

Tbc, the ultra-wealthy now supposedly fleeing Dubai are a relatively small part of the UAE's economic relevance

The mostly South Asian middle class 20-30 times their size and the presence of literally over a trillion dollars in sovereign wealth will likely keep it a regional pole of accumulation

Some sixth-tier action, and a pic of Enfield's glorious art deco stand. A shame clubs like Dagenham see Wrexham's as a model to follow rather than their opponents yesterday, one of Britain's most likeable and admirable clubs. But these are the times we live in

‘It beggars belief’: MoD sources warn Palantir’s role at heart of government is a threat to UK’s security Experts say that claims UK data remains under government ownership miss the point that the company has the capability to build its own detailed picture of the British population, and even infer state ...

NEW: Two senior MOD whistleblowers with inside knowledge of Palantir's systems have come forward to @thenerve.news to say government ministers are ignorant of the grave national security risks the technology poses.

I cant work out whether Manosphere sounds more like a 1990s Amsterdam gay bar with an eye watering darkroom, or an industrial estate leisure centre with a two pound discount if you do both the paintballing and the tenpin bowling.

Either way those were memorable stag weekends.

Humanize Iran & Iranians. Someone posted on IG that when she, as an American, visited Iran, she was welcomed with open arms and generosity.
Here is a photo of a man offering her cookies while on they were traveling on a bus. If you know Iranians, you know this is super
common.

I lived and traveled in Iran for months. In Tehran I lived with the family of a retired bank worker who saw me looking for housing. I roomed with his son for months, ate all my meals with them, and they never accepted any money. Once I was sick and throwing up and they all came into the bathroom and the dad stroked my head while I barfed and told me "Aybi nadare" (no shame, it's ok). I traveled around most of the country by plane, train, bus, shared taxi, etc. Eventually I stopped booking hotels because l'd always meet people on the train, bus etc who'd insist I stay with them. The family of Iran/Iraq war vets from Yazd who took me to Taft for bbq in the mountains. The taxi driver from Rasht who made a bed for me on the floor of his tiny apartment because all the hotels were full. The only time a police officer talked to me was once to make sure I was ok. I never felt in any danger day or night. The land of Iran is as incredibly diverse as its people. There are mountainous rain forests and desert salt flats. I met among the most liberal and most conservative people there, and everything in between. Everyone was so kind it makes me cry with shame.

If there is one thing that the elites of the US capitalist class and their mouthpieces can’t countenance, it is the idea that there are people out there living richer, kinder, more fulfilling and spiritually rich lives than they can offer. The average Iranian is better than them in every single way.

And I am so weary, tired, and bored of the upright explanations of mainstream figures who think they can soothe over our governments’ limitless complicity with some realpolitik version of ‘hate the sin, love the sinner’ rhetoric. This empire is an irredeemable stain on the souls of every one of us.

Iran has produced some of the most beautiful literature, poetry, mythologies and cosmologies, architecture, music, art and cinema in history, acts of communion which the world is blessed to have received. Trump and Hegseth have produced nothing but shitty buildings and sexual assault police reports.

This is all true but what irks about Wrexham is the infantilisation of everything around them. The "All hail the Hollywood saviours" stuff. And why the hell should anyone in L1 or the Championship be impressed? They've overtaken us by spending loads more money than us.Nothing more. It's no fairytale

A corner of north London where food has become a battleground in the Israel-Gaza war | Jonathan Liew A smashed window here, a provocative sticker there. In an age when protest feels increasingly meaningless, it’s no wonder that acts of petty symbolism are on the rise, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

West Ham vs Leeds in the quarter final of the FA Cup is on Easter Sunday. My niece is coming over and the trains are fucked but I’m seriously considering going anyway. 9000 Leeds fans and a history of unrest between us suggests a level of chaos that can’t be missed. It’s what Jesus would have wanted

The aim of this petition is to save the Hare and Hounds Ground for local football to return to the local community and also hopefully to reform Leyton FC (1868 - 2011) as a local community run football club.

There was more than enough evidence available at the time to disqualify Mandelson.

The PM now accepts he was wrong to appoint him.

He must also accept Labour Together was and is poisonous and divisive - and needs to excise it from govt and the party.

At what point do Wrexham's owners stop being interesting, and worth being talked about every five fucking minutes? (The answer is of course that they have never been interesting).

Julie Pritchard 1966-2026 It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Julie Pritchard, columnist for LeftLion and the founder of the original Nottingham Forest fanzine Brian, who passed away after a short illness ...

Very sad news. Brian was an epic publication - late 80s/early 90s football fanzine culture at its anarchic, witty best leftlion.co.uk/features/202...
