More than 318,000 children have already benefitted from Minnesota’s nation-leading Child Tax Credit this year - with families receiving an average credit of $2,669.

The goal is simple - put money in the pockets of working families and lift children out of poverty.

Yes! We find a good number of gar scales in some of our Cretaceous marine sites.

There are populations that are predominantly estuarine/marine (relatively near shore), but all gars require freshwater for spawning/egg development. Very resilient and adaptable fishes!

ALT (also in original video post):

An Alligator Gar (fish) swims in a marine exhibit at an aquarium. Several saltwater fishes swim past it, including tarpon and sharks.
“How Far I’ll Go” from the Moana soundtrack plays in the background.

You keep doing you, Marine Alligator Gar 😎👍

Indeed, Alligator Gars (and several other gar species) can live in full saltwater! This lives full-time in a marine exhibit with tarpon, sharks, and a sea turtle!

Invasive silver carp jumping out of the water

Just to be clear, invasive carp do pose a significant threat to the #GreatLakes and we need to continue taking action to prevent their introduction, but they're not yet "rapidly taking over Lake Michigan" as the president claimed in a social media post yesterday www.woodtv.com/news/michiga...

7 of the World’s Little-Known Fish Migrations Most readers will know of the epic salmon migrations. But have you head of these other fascinating freshwater fish migrations?

Move over salmon. Here are some lesser-known but no less spectacular fish migrations, including redhorse, sharptooth catfish & Nopili rock-climbing goby.

Plus gar with @solomonrdavid.bsky.social.

Here’s what this gar actually sounds like, when encountered at the @audubonnature.bsky.social aquarium in New Orleans.

Effectively embodies Fatboy Slim 😅

I recently turned forty-five, which means it's time for my colon cancer screening. Because I have no family history of colon cancer and am of average risk, my doctor prescribed the Cologuard test (which I was amused to see is made in Madison, WI; go Badgers!). It was super easy to do.

Looks like an escaped rosy red feeder minnow (Fathead Minnow variant used in pet supplies as food). Wonder how it got there 🤔

Was fun to visit after several years! They changed quite a bit of the aquarium; still plenty of gars, too many penguins (anything over zero is too many IMO 😅), and new insectarium is really cool!

Storefront sign for a cigar bar, but a tree blocks part of the sign so it reads “gar bar”.

Excited at first but realized it was a mirage…I mean garage— wait that doesn’t work 😅

A fish scientist kneels next to a sign that reads “Down on the Bayou” and the lettering features different animals, including a gar (fish)!

Took the @garlab.bsky.social team to @audubonnature.bsky.social while in New Orleans for the southern division @amfisheriessoc.bsky.social conference!

Our Gar & Bowfin conservation & management symposium is tomorrow!

A composite image of me from the red carpet at the Hoppers premiere with the Hoppers logo and several hoppers characters.

After about 5 years (!) of keeping secrets, I am so excited that Disney Pixar's Hoppers is finally coming out on March 6th!

Back in 2021, Pixar emailed me asking if I could give a talk about my research to their employees. Then another talk. And another.
