A still from an Inspector Morse episode. Morse and Lewis are in what look like a library in a posh house. Lewis is saying "He does crosswords, madam. Knows all sorts of words nobody ever uses"

"Terminal insomnia" is such a ridiculously stupid term for when you keep waking up at 3am and can't get back to sleep.
I think probably don't the word terminal in a diagnosis unless you really have to.

I'm a big proponent (nerd) about open standards and protocols on the web, so it always gives me a little sparkle of joy when I see sites implementing RSS feeds.
A big π in the direction of @mycrossword.co.uk today; having a public feed of new puzzles I can subscribe to is just such a delight.
That's my hope

Hoping to build up a resource for new solvers going over some of the basics and the more annoying fiddly bits.
Hopefully it would be helpful for you too!
I'm thinking of doing a #CrypticSunday spinoff video thing.
Are you (or someone you know) new to cryptics or have you been doing them for a little while but still not feeling like you're properly confident?
Fancy doing a joint solve with me on a Zoom call - pre-recorded not streamed?
I agree with @jimcaris.bsky.social that 'birding' seems a pretty inoffensive and widely-used term.

"Who put the crisp in the biscuit?"

Yeah I've no interest in Latin / cricket etc (or indeed four letter words for Indian water buffalo) but I do need them for some puzzles so I have a load of flashcards to try and memorise the more common fiddly bastard ones (e.g. 'take' can mean R). For me learning that is part of the fun I think.

l Iove finding little scribbled notes and stuff in charity shop books: "Martin hoovered your carpet. Iβll send you a postcard and weβll see you next Monday. Oh yeah I was bollocked by Matron, and eventually sacked."
