A map of the southern central Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland. Bright red lines mark the currently active eruptive fissures. Darker red lines show guard walls meant to keep lava away from infrastructure. Lava flows from this current eruption are shaded purple; the flows are mostly moving eastward, away from roads and infrastructure. Darker gray shading shows all of the lava that has erupted out of the Sundhnúksgígar fissure in the 9 eruptions since December 2023.
To the east, shaded in lighter gray, are the lava flows from the three Fagradalsfjall eruptions in 2021-2023.

⚒️🧪🌋🇮🇸 The fissure slowly extended to the north over the past hours. It is 2.4 km long now, and also extends further north than any of the previous fissures.
This new map shows a smaller lava cover area than has been the case in the earlier stages of previous eruptions.

AGU is deeply disappointed in SCOTUS decision to overrule the order blocking the dismantling of fed agencies until we could make our case about the President’s unlawful actions.

The harm this will cause is shocking. However, we will continue to fight for the rule of law.

There are still plenty of opportunities to catch Quorn in preseason action as we host Hinckley AFC, Anstey Nomads, Corby Town & OJM CFC. There are also visits to Shepshed Dynamo and Alfreton Town to come.

Oooof. A massive earthquake at shallow depth pretty much right beneath Mandalay - Myanmar’s second largest city - that has a population of 1.6 million people. This country has gone through so much terrible upheaval over recent years - today’s earthquake could well be catastrophic

A Straightforward Climate Fix Hits Another Setback Cutting down emissions of planet-warming methane from oil and gas production was supposed to be relatively simple. It hasn’t worked that way.

Trump sabotages climate change fix: the methane fee would have led to emissions reductions of 1.2 million tons of methane over the next 10 years, roughly equivalent to removing 8 million gas-powered cars from the road for one year. Trump ended it. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/c...
