This map shows the change in Electoral College Seats in 2030. Texas and Florida become more influential while California loses power. Demographic changes mirrored in electoral power? Sounds like a decent enough concept to me. Source: buff.ly/rsSVvh9

I see a lot of visualizations of one year of a person's online dating (a 21M from London in this case). Seems miserable. Is getting drunk in a bar or club making a comeback as a dating strategy? Source: buff.ly/ZvAbOdz

US Americans (and Australians for that matter) often forget just how unusual it is to live in gigantic states. Even US states out west that aren’t particularly known for their large area are gigantic by most international standards. Source: buff.ly/CAozJNB

This map shows the Balkans in the 1350s. The Balkans didn’t just change governments over the last 1000 years, they kept changing the map. Empires rose and fell, borders slid back and forth, states appeared, vanished, and re-appeared more often than in most regions. Source: buff.ly/PaMnawj

Fertility rates across East Asia are comically low. Look to these nations to see the demographic future of the Western nations. We will need to reimagine work, retirement, and healthcare.

Quiet good news: Iraq’s Human Development Index has risen since 2021. Gains in life expectancy, education and incomes are pushing the country closer to β€œhigh human development”. Not a miracle story, but clear evidence that post-conflict recovery can show up in the data. Source: buff.ly/oTk1zPb

These maps compare the then vs now populations of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Borders shifted, Bosnia wasn’t even annexed until 1908, and war, migration and state collapse reshaped who lived where. Population change isn’t decline or growth, rather it’s geopolitics in motion. Source: buff.ly/nrQOzAa

If you want to be fit at 70, you need to get fit earlier in life. Ageing brings decline regardless of how fit you are. Start from a higher base, fall from higher up. Fitness compounds, just like money. Go lift some weights, go for a swim, walk around the block!

This map shows where each European nation has the largest diaspora. The US is the most common expat nation outside of Europe. Poorer Eastern European nations move to Germany (not for the beer but for job opportunities).

This map by @xruiztru shows which nations control the North Pole? The increasing yearlong accessibility makes the region geopolitically more interesting. The US seems to think that having an ally control Greenland isn't good enough anymore.

Whether you like it or not, I am convinced that European military spending will increase massively over the next decade as US-European trust shrinks. This increase in spending is inevitable in my view and comes at the same time as pension costs skyrocket. Not a recipe for a stable environment...

Let's rearrange Europe and assign each nation the landmass it deserves based on its population size. Are you happy with your new geography and new neighbours? The German-Russian border will seem familiar to the older Berliners and East Germans...

French, Polish, and Turkish prisons have super low escape rates. In Macedonia staying in prison almost looks optional. The difference between Germany and Austria is also stunning.
