Our March event is fast approaching! On 11th March at 3:30pm Simon McKeown and Kathryn Barnett will be joining us for an exclusive look at the Hanz Würtz collection and of the upcoming Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art exhibition “Images of Disability” #DisHist
(Please note the earlier time!)
🥳🥳🥳🥳
Speaking of our monthly events, we would love to hear from you about how to shape them going forward! Do you have an idea for a topic that you would like to see discussed? Can you recommend speakers or projects? Or do you want to present yourself? Please do get in touch! #DisHist
After a little bit of a break, our monthly events are back! Join us on 25th February at 5pm (UK time) where Emma Koprena from Transport For All will be with us to talk about their archive and showcase some objects from it! #DisHist
Just spent a wonderful couple of hours with one of my participants, hearing about her life in West Brom in the 1960s. I am still recruiting, so if you or anyone you know fits the bill and is interested, please get in touch #1960s #womenshistory #workingclasshistory #twentiethcenturyhistory
Having carefully set up an out of office and forward for my Leeds email account, it looks as if the University has simply shut it down. Can friends and followers please get the word out that I am still contactable for history-related messages and queries at jessicameyer1 @ gmail.com. Thank you!
Wonderful papers by Margarida Portelo @louisebell.bsky.social and @cormac-keenan.bsky.social in our first panel #milwelfhist
Really enjoyed getting to present at the @milwelfhist.bsky.social virtual symposium this morning, looking at some of the more “fun” aspects of my PhD thesis (we all know I love getting to talk about the artificial limbs themselves!) #DisHist #ww1 #ww2
I’m desperate to go and see it!
Did some volunteering for #IVW26 last night! If you know me at all, then you know music and going to gigs is a huge part of my life, so it was nice to get to play a small part in celebrating independent venues.
I think this might have been the first time I’ve ever attended something at Celtic Connections?! But I really enjoyed getting to spend 1+ hours listening to some wonderful music at the Danny Kyle Open Stage yesterday! #CCFest26
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was definitely worth taking a break to go see!
Genuinely have so many things that I need to get done before the end of the weekend, so of course I’m dealing with the stress by just going to the cinema…
I’m looking forward to presenting at this on Monday! #DisHist #ww1 #ww2

📣Apply for Small Grants Funding!
Are you looking to conduct research into social or cultural history? Do you need support with archival visits, organising a conference, or buying specialist equipment?
⏰Our next funding deadline is 1 March
socialhistory.org.uk/funding/smal...
You now have a whole extra week to get abstracts in!
The conference will also be my last hurrah as PGR rep, so it would be lovely to see loads of people there!
If, like me, you haven’t submitted your abstract for the @socialhistsoc.bsky.social conference then you NEED to get it done tomorrow! Always one of my favourite conferences and always full of the nicest, most supportive people!
I wasn’t quite expecting this on my afternoon walk… 😍❄️
Just sent off my first job application of 2026… Which is arguably a bleak thing to be doing on a Saturday night 💀
📣You have just under a month to send in your proposal for our 2026 Social History Society Conference - where we will be celebrating out 50th anniversary!

I love these!!
We are starting to plan our monthly events schedule for next year and we would love your input! Would you like to lead one of our sessions? Or do you have any ideas for speakers/themes that you would like to see explored? Please do get in touch! #DisHist

For our November monthly event, Jemma Lakmaker will be joining us on 19th November at 5pm to discuss deaf ex-servicemen in post-WW1 Britain. #DisHist #ww1
Reading some academic articles for probably the first time since I submitted my thesis corrections and, I won’t lie, it’s a bit of a struggle to get my mind back into this way of working/thinking…
