books make me happy

We live in a world addicted to speed and noise. Reading is one of the only things that properly forces you to slow down. To sit with things you don’t immediately understand. That kind of patience feels odd right now in a world that’s so focused on quick productivity. Books heal.

I feel as if the past couple of years have permanently rewired our brains.

If your freedom comes at the cost of someone else’s silence, it was never freedom. It was domination in disguise.

To be colonized is to be alienated from yourself. To decolonize is not to return to some lost past, but to build a future where every person is free to define their own destiny, no longer bound by the chains of foreign-imposed ideologies.

Your problem isn’t the immigrants. Your problem is the billionaires who are using the immigrants to distract you from the real problem.

Refusing to be numb is a radical act. Caring about the earth while they destroy it. Caring about strangers while they deport or bomb them. You’re not ‘too sensitive.’ Don’t let people make you feel ashamed of your empathy and humanity. You’re still human. Stay that way.

I can’t believe it’s been one year since the release of my first book, Child of a Stolen Homeland. It has surpassed every expectation. It’s been read across the globe, and I often receive photos from readers sharing their favorite poem. That connection truly warms a writer’s heart. Thank you all.

ICE agents cover their faces for the same reason KKK members wore hoods.

We live in a world so barbaric that it equates civilization with domination. It seeks to control land, people, and existence. The only markers of success in such a world are profit, power and greed, while harmony with nature and simplicity are mislabeled as primitive.

This feels like a recession, a depression, a civil war and a world war all in one.

I’m not trying to say ‘I told you so,’ but for many Brown and Black people, this system has never been a surprise. We lived this reality for a long time. We’ve been sounding the alarm for years but the world wasn’t listening until things started happening to those who aren’t us.

I don’t think people realise how bad things are going to get.

You can literally sense it.

What a year this week has been.

If there’s ever been a time in history to educate yourself, it’s now. We’re living through a modern war against intelligence and literacy.

Nothing says ‘Make America Great Again’ like invading an overseas nation and stealing its oil.
