I met the first guy who said β€œI’ll always remember this night, Jane”
When I brought cigarettes home on a whim, that was really him
And all of us other guys who’ve said it since then
We’ve been trying to mean it as sincerely as he did

There’s nothing stopping you from frying up a few strips of bacon and then throwing a bunch of halved Brussels sprouts in the pan to sautΓ© in the grease. You can do this any time you want. They don’t want you to know this but it’s true

I feel like I’m losing my mind seeing so many outlets using β€œofficer-involved shooting” in their coverage of today’s Hartford shooting. Just an abdication of journalistic responsibility

Any reporter or news org that uses β€œpolice-involved shooting” or any variation thereof should quit or close down. This work is not for you.

Hartford police shot a man on Blue Hills Avenue today. They say he's in critical condition. There's bystander video of the shooting going around on Facebook. It comes on the heels of Hartford police shooting and killing Everard Walker in his home last week.

Retirement Announcement
Today, I share news that comes with both deep gratitude and a full heart. After much reflection, I have made the decision to retire effective May 1.
Serving alongside you has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Every day, I have witnessed the professionalism, resilience, and humanity that each of you bring to this work. The mission we carry is not always easy. It requires strength, patience, integrity, and compassion β€” and you show up with those qualities every single day.
I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. Through challenges and change, you have remained committed to public safety, to each other, and to the individuals entrusted to our care. That dedication does not go unnoticed, and it will always stay with me.
This decision was not made lightly. This department has been more than a workplace β€” it has been a community and, for many years, a second home. I leave with immense respect for the work you do and complete confidence in your continued leadership and professionalism.
An Interim Commissioner will be announced soon to ensure a smooth and steady transition. I am committed to supporting that process in every way possible over the coming weeks.
Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your unwavering commitment to this important work. It has truly been the privilege of a lifetime to serve with you.
