The agreement Carney's shooting for is on the macro level. Canada needs trade with the US or better put, cutting off all trade isn't good for the Canadian economy. None of this should diminish the push to expand trade outside of the US envelope. Getting agreements on both would be best.

With Trump's unstable mental state, I wouldn't trust any deal from him that he might throw out in a rage-filled snit. That said, hopefully he's over his throwing chaos at Canada schtick.
