I know there is a lot of uncertainty right now, especially with the government shutdown. But I also know that we take care of our people.

This agreement will reduce pollution flowing into the Susquehanna River and secure the future of one of our state’s largest clean energy producers.

I know there is real and justified fear in our communities. The firings. The high prices. And the shutdown.

But in Maryland, we never let fear stop us from protecting each other. In the military, I learned to live by the motto Leave No One Behind.

ONCE AGAIN: Republicans control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

They have the power to keep the government open.

This shutdown will severely harm Maryland’s farmers and small business owners.

It will disrupt funding for crucial benefits like WIC – which supports 183,000 Marylanders.

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers and government contractors could miss paychecks — or see their jobs eliminated.

President Trump, Speaker Johnson, and Leader Thune can prevent this.

A federal government shutdown would disproportionately hurt Marylanders.

Republicans control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

They need to work together to stop this chaos and keep the government open.

Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are hurtling our country toward a government shutdown that would accelerate the assault we’ve seen on our people and our economy from Day 1 of this White House.

The decision to refuse to come to the negotiating table is a choice.

I had the honor of joining Smith Islanders last week as the first sitting governor to visit since 1999.

Their community is only accessible by boat and there’s only a few hundred people there, but it doesn’t make them any less important.

Maryland to close one of Jessup’s prisons The Maryland Correctional Institution-Jessup will close and 700 men incarcerated at the facility, along with 300 staff, will be transferred to other facilities by June.

Keeping MCI-J open would cost Maryland taxpayers over $200 million.

By closing it, we’re 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙖𝙭𝙥𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, allocating resources to more sustainable correctional solutions, and easing the burden on correctional staff.
