Slipping Wives (1927) began production on this day in 1926. It was released with the tagline 'The story of a drifting husband and wife who no longer talk to each other-they bark.' It featured #laurelandhardy with Priscilla Dean and Herbert Rawlinson.

Oliver the Eighth (1934) was the last of #laurelandhardy's three reel films. It featured English comedy actor Jack Barty (John Walter Bartholomew, 1888-1942) as Jitters the butler.

On this day in 1927 The Second One Hundred Year was released. #laurelandhardy play Little Goofy and Big Goofy, sentenced to 100 years in prison until they eventually succeed in escaping.

Early to Bed, the first of only two #laurelandhardy films to feature only Stan and Ollie (the second being Brats) was released on this day in 1928.

Bank President: What is your business?
Oliver: We're in the restaurant business.
Bank President: Here in town?
Oliver: Oh, all over town. Here, there and thither.
Bank President: Chain business?
Stan: No, restaurant.

Philip (Stan): Wimmen!

The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case (1930) was a film of firsts. The first (and only) film to feature their names in the title, their first three reel film and the first film we hear Ollie say "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into!"

Oliver: She [his wife] says I think more of you than I do of her.
Stanley: Well you do, don't you?
Oliver: Well, we won't go into that...
Their First Mistake (1932)

The Finishing Touch (1928) #laurelandhardy are promised a $500 incentive to rush the completion of a homeowners new house. What could possibly go wrong? This silent film demonstrates how Stan and Ollie didn't need speech to drive a story and is considered a prototype for their 'working-man films'.

On this day in 1927 With Love and Hisses was released, although #laurelandhardy weren't an official partnership at this point the film does lay the foundations for what we see in future films and stars many of their costars we see such as James FInlayson, Charlie Hall and Anita Garvin.

#laurelandhardy relaxing in between takes on the set of Towed in a Hole (1932), other than a brief appearance by Billy Gilbert, Stan and Ollie are the only characters in the film.

On this day in 1957 Oliver Hardy passed away aged 65. His ashes were interred in the Masonic Garden section of the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood. #laurelandhardy

Wrong Again (1929), #laurelandhardy thinking Blue Boy (the horse) is the stolen Blue Boy (painting) in the news they seek to claim the reward for his return.

Ollie: These millionaires are peculiar--They think just the opposite to other people. Even now he's taking a bath, an' it's only Monday.

Backstage with #laurelandhardy during their 1952 UK tour. This was their second British tour, Stan wrote the sketch "A Spot of Trouble." that they performed at various locations between February and September.

Habeas Corpus (1928) began production 97 years ago this week. If you can lip read you will see Stan referring to Ollie by his nickname Babe, something he done in several silent films.

Stan: Don't you think the Professor is a trifle cuckoo?
Ollie: He is as sound mentally as you or I.

Hal Roach Studios where #laurelandhardy made their best films were built in 1920 (the company being founded in 1914) the studios were demolished in 1963, as an entity Hal Roach Studios survived into the late 1980s becoming a pioneer in digital film colorization. Hal Roach died in 1992 age 100.

#laurelandhardy made foreign language versions of some of their films in the early 1930s, mainly French, Spanish, and German. Rather than being dubbed they learnt their line phonetically and used different supporting actors.

In Two Tars (1928) we see Stan and Ollie as two sailors on shore leave, they rent a car, set off on a journey only to encounter a traffic jam and after a minor bump we see an epic example of classic #laurelandhardy mounting reciprocal retaliation that leads to the destruction of most of the cars.

In Sugar Daddies (1927) we see #laurelandhardy as employees of oil tycoon Cyrus Brittle (James Finlayson), Stan plays a lawyer and Ollie a butler. Although appearing together Stan and Ollie were not yet the partnership we know today.
