How many people are shown toxic content?

The answer is simply, yes. And, I will say there are people trying to do just that out there!
04.02.2026 14:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0NEW: The FBI has been unable to access a Washington Post reporterβs seized iPhone because it was in Lockdown Mode, a sometimes overlooked feature that makes iPhones broadly more secure, according to recently filed court records.

The Post has never been perfect, Bezos bought it & broke it. If people don't like it, go support independent media organizations

04.02.2026 14:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm interested to know what the readers who say they're feeling let down actually want and why they're upset. My guess: there's a group that do want a local paper (and should support local news) and there's a bandwagon group "mad" about Bezos who can get news and global affairs somewhere else anyway

Thereβs never been more concern about who owns the news ... And yet: Reaching Americans isnβt the same as persuading them. And the audiences of the properties these billionaires are acquiring have shrunk dramaticallyβeven as their relative value has soared. From @michaelsocolow.bsky.social π

It's not as simple as central bank independence good, political involvement bad. As highlighted in our conversation with Stefan Eich.

The Chicago Sun-Times is not the first or last media organizations to screw up (see the beloved grauniad)... it's not technology, it's human error and journalism needs investment to keep audiences front of mind, rather than the volume of clicks they generate
www.theguardian.com/media/2021/m...
AI can and should be an absolute force multiplier for journalism. The moral of this story to me is people make mistakes and newsrooms are under-resourced for quality assurance ...
Total, high profile f#$% up but no different from missing a fact check or sending out typos (see the grauniad ...)
Are more mistakes like this likely as media companies compete on high volume content?
If you're mad, are you willing to pay more for people to write and edit content?
Why is the rest of the media world jumping on this like they don't us AI in their own newsrooms?
Ask better questions ...
The Chicago Sun-Times "heat index" episode is a massive missed opportunity to have a conversation about journalism.
Rather that piling on or complaining how terrible it is why not ask ... Why did the mistake happen? What does it tell us about the state of media? How can we course correct?
+ the guy behind the mistake owned up to it:
βI do use AI for background at times but always check out the material first. This time, I did not and I canβt believe I missed it because itβs so obvious. No excuses,β Buscaglia said to 404 Media. βOn me 100 percent and Iβm completely embarrassed.β
@niemanlab.org this headline misses the mark on this whole incident.
This isn't a failure in writing, it's a failure in editing and in quality control ... which is a direct result of understaffed news organizations trying to pump out more and more content ...
Understand the world in its complexity; seek out information that goes beyond borders, silos, and echo chambers.
