TONIGHT! Sad to miss it (I’m in Miami), but if you’re in NYC you should check it out. #juilliard #carnegiehall
Ooof, that one hurts. RIP, Sofia Gubaidulina. Thank you for the countless gems. youtube.com/watch?v=aZYY...
Dream team right here. Can’t wait to spend summer at Tanglewood with these five incredibly talented composers. #tanglewood #tmc
The leanness of Saariaho’s late scores is like sonic nouvelle cuisine. The simplest things become magically beautiful and fresh.
I don’t quite know what to make of Hermann Nitsch’s music, which keeps making me want to revisit it. That’s… good? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Or at the very veryyyy least “here’s the zero you’ve dropped”
I think they meant absurd rather than absurdist.
There are some hues I struggle with in music. Like “epic,” for instance. I can’t connect 99% of times. That oh so rare 1%, though… full body chills. Like this
Now when I hear loud tapping, I just know it’s Hawk Hudson sitting on top of my a/c again. So beautiful, but such a noisy jerk.
“I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists.” - Beyoncé
“(…) in music, genre and kinship often co-present, as predicted by its root, gen- (genetic, genotype, and even gender).” - George Lewis
It’s official: we’re roommates now.
“Uncanny comfort.” Pretty apt, I kinda like that.
This is how I spent my evening, and it was sublime. If you’re in NY, go catch them.

Source: REDCAT. The music of legendary collaborators Julius Eastman and Arthur Russell is singular and boundless. These are expansive, quintessentially queer pieces, in which every moment is full of choice. Their profound and personal…
One of my favorite recent reads that are not about music composition but kind of are. Highly recommend it.

Friends in Reykjavik: really cool concert TONIGHT by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Bjarnason, featuring my “Orun” and other contemporary works. So wish I could be there, but I know it’ll be great. ❤️
On that I agree with you.
It’s far more plausible for AI to replace a brain surgeon or a financial analyst than an original artist. And the negative view of the arts is not a reflection of the world but rather of its neoliberal side. There is hope, as it will always fail to serve most of its constituents. I’m optimistic.
It is sooooo hard to make choices😣

I guess he heard piccolo too…
Thinking piccolo and crotales this morning, wonder why 🤔
Emilia Perez is one of the worst examples of appropriation I’ve seen in a while. The songs alone are enough to drive any native Spanish speaker mad. It’s like old-school French colonial take on Mexican culture. So bad.
I am returning to Dijon this summer, for the International Academy of Musical Creation with New Media 2025.
This is a great opportunity to have new work, especially multimedia, performed in a supportive environment.
Applications are rolling (until 1 June):
