So, them announcing that they’d be omitting mons (the whole reason why Pokemon is able to thrive compared to its competition like Digimon and Yo Kai Watch), citing better graphics (which was iffy at best), was the breaking point after ~4 years of fandom unrest 😭

It doesn’t help that during this time, PSMD didn’t sell great compared to the Explorers games and Pokemon Go was generating tons of revenue. So, people couldn’t even rely on spin-offs if the main line games were lackluster. Faith in Game Freak was near gone.

This got worse in 2017 as we got USUM and they did very little to improve upon the experience from SM (where as most other third games had a 2 year gap except for Crystal). Dexit was when something snapped and now the discussion about development time really divided the fanbase.

I’d even argue that it started in 2015. Way too many people were up in arms about Super Mystery Dungeon (PSMD) being announced instead of Pokemon Z or whatever. That started the divide between the “we want a main line game every year” and the “we don’t need a main line game every year crowds”.

Tbh, I get the argument about not spending money if a game isn’t worth it. Ex. Have Pokemon games on the Switch really been worth the $100 price point (base game + DLC + NSO)? But $20 for a game that was like $30 when it came out? I think that’s more than fair. They could’ve charged $60 or more.

Same! Also, the VS Recorder from Platinum/BW was so clutch in keeping record of battles (especially for post-commentary purposes). Why must they always take away such amazing features? 😭💔

My concern about the Direct is we’re probably getting Gen 10, Pokopia, probably Colosseum/XD for NSO, FR/LG ports, and who knows what else. If they reveal too much of Gen 10, it’ll cannibalize the other announcements and risk lowering their sales figures. So, I don’t wanna get my hopes too high 🙁

I fortunately haven’t seen anyone saying it looks bad outside of those that either A. Admitted to not enjoying the genre or B. Have a background in game design and actually explained how they’d improve the graphics.

Pricing-wise, I think some people have swung the pendulum all the way back over 😫

I don’t think I’ve seen any complaints against the game itself (outside of those that have been upfront about not enjoying this genre of games in the first place). Almost all of the negative criticism has been directed at the anti-consumer practices 😞

Right now I see two primary arguments against it:
1. It being exclusively on a GKC and not an actual cartridge
2. It being priced the same as a main series game. Will it be worth the price point? Granted, this has always been a debate. And some spin offs have been $10-20 cheaper than the main games.
