Some of the poems have source ghazals in the Divan, but I'm still trying to track down the real poem that this "interpretation" is based on.
He bases his work on the almost literal Wilberforce-Clarke translation of Hafiz. This is doubly embarrassing for me because I should have known better. I grew up with Hafiz in the house, knew that these translations were controversial; I didn't know they were virtual fabrications.
Have to issue a somewhat embarrassing correction to my newsletter this AM. I included a "translation" of the poet Hafiz that turns out to be no such thing; it's an interpretation done by an American poet who is not a Persian reader and claims to be channeling Hafiz's spirit.
Ghost World: I thought those girls were hilarious and cool. Then watched it recently and was like damn they are insanely mean.
