Never look at potential free agent classes more than a year in advance and expect any of the major names to be available. They won't be.

There is a lot to like about Penguins win in season opener This is a win you should be happy with for the Pittsburgh Penguins to open their 2025-26 NHL regular season.

There was a lot to like about the Penguins season opening win. Including the way they won, and who they won with. www.pensburgh.com/pittsburgh-p...

Larry Brooks is going to write some bangers this season.

TJ Oshie seems uncomfortable on TV so far.

It is only one period but Ceci and Dumoulin already have appalling numbers for the Kings. What an unforced self-own there.

Tough to tell from TV but Yankee Stadium does not seem to respond to Renegade the way Pittsburgh does.

The Penguins went into the third period holding a 1-0 lead and outshot the Rangers 12-5 and were pushing a 70 percent expected goal share in the third. Perhaps the most impressive part of the night for them. They locked it down. Game never felt at risk.

The Pittsburgh Penguins may not win a lot of games this season but that was a wildly impressive debut. That was as structured and disciplined as they have played in years. Young guys did not look out of place. That was solid. Solid game.

Penguins got a little sloppy past few minutes but that is an atrocious call against Letang. Holy shit. Brutal.

Overall that was a pretty strong period from the Penguins. Kindel did not look out of place at all. Crosby still has the juice. The left side of the defense is exactly as advertised, however.

What makes a good stadium experience? There are a lot of factors at play here.

With the Penguins opening in New York tonight going to link back to something I wrote in August: Madison Square Garden is still the best stadium/arena experience I have seen. Love going there no matter the event. adamgretz.substack.com/p/what-makes...

Just watched 10 minutes of FS1 in utter disbelief that Tarik Skubal was pitching a second game in a row before I realized it was actually a replay of Game 2.

The NHL 15: Jeremy Swayman and the unpredictable nature of goalies Is he the goalie that shined in a shared role with Linus Ullmark, or is he the goalie that struggled in his first year as a full-time starter? Or is he something in between both extremes?

I think that's totally reasonable. And also chances to get all three on the field at the same time.

The "bench Highsmith, start Herbig" people are insane to me.

1) Highsmith is good
2) Herbig is being used perfectly as a situational pass-rusher, spot starter.
3) It's better to have and play all three.

Every year the Steelers struggle with a team early in the season that everybody thinks they should beat and then it turns out that team was actually really good. Seattle and New England might both qualify this season.

I feel like they probably still win the game even with Toussant's fumble if that Manning play gets called correctly.

But they definitely win without the fumble.

They were in complete control of that game and driving for more.
