A google maps view of the area around the Strait of Hormuz, with crude markup showing the 4 steps to successfully clearing the strait:

1. Build up speed
2. Hit Trampoline
3. Cool backflip
4. Nail the landing

The boat is illustrated using a clip art yacht, and the trampoline is also just kind of floating there.

wait. wait. everyone hold on. i've solved it

Wealth inequality in America just hit its widest gap in more than 3 decades Nearly one-third of U.S. household wealth was held by the top 1% in the third quarter of 2025.

I am watching people whine about the millionaire’s tax in Seattle on LinkedIn. It is 9.9% on earnings in excess of $1M. So if you made $1.2M next year, you would pay approx $20k to support Seattle infrastructure. People are saying eg Schultz fleeing will leave Seattle in ruins. So just leaving this:

One of the greatest things that happened this weekend at ECCC for me was a teen bringing their profoundly annotated copy of Painted Devils and telling me how they've catalogued their favorite parts and spotted new things when rereading, and y'all it is such a joy to meet the people you write for

Thank you!! The shift in Fie's voice was one of those things I knew about ten people max would clock, but it's always a delight when y'all do!!

it's all about intent baby!! in this case the narrator is a con artist and identity thief trying to figure out how to tell her own story, so having her sneak up and snatch the reins at the last second was a deliberate stylistic choice!!

anyone remember back in 2017 when there was a well-intentioned but shortsighted effort to signal being a "safe" person by wearing a safety pin, which waned when it was correctly pointed out that neonazis can also wear a safety pin

just thinking of that for no reason

plenty of authors can give you perfectly unobjectionable and charming characters falling in love, I, however, will give you two pathetic messes whose greatest contribution to society would be getting shoved in front of a bus

you know you can do what you want, but i would recommend never using any of these fucking chatbots and absolutely keeping them away from the people you love, especially your children

Folks flying in for ECCC: If you *can* take the light rail from SeaTac, I strongly recommend you do. The main route into Seattle, I-5, is operating at reduced capacity while undergoing repairs, so traffic is gnarly and heavy delays are likely going by car.

a white cardboard box (with ventilation holes) that reads "LIVE BIRDS" and has the USPS logo

There was rustling. The clerk mentioned pigeons getting rowdy. I awkwardly assumed it was a bit, because we were on a busy city street, then THE COOING CRESCENDOED. And that was when I saw:
