So many amazing workshops! I'll be delivering a half day workshop so check that out! ;)
And workshop costs for those that register for the conference:
Rest of the workshops.
ISEC 2027 will offer 14(!) workshops over the course of 2 days, Jan 8-9, 2027.
Incredibly excited & thankful to all of our instructors. 🦋🇲🇽📉👩🏽💻
Check out the workshop titles on the main page, statisticalecology.org, and full information here: statisticalecology.org?page_id=742
Workshop notifications have now all been sent out.
To say we were overwhelmed with incredible proposals is an understatement. Compared to previous ISECs, we received > 3x the # of proposals.
Look out for information on the accepted workshops next week! #StatisticalEcology 🇲🇽🐆🦋
Workshop & roundtable proposal submissions are now closed!
The caliber & number of proposals received is 🤯. Shaping up to be an incredibly exciting & jam-packed ISEC 2027.
Stay tuned for more announcements in a few weeks 🐾🦋👩🏽💻

Two more days to submit a round table and/or workshop proposal!
We’ve already received some spectacular submissions & look forward to those that are on their way. 📉👩🏽💻🦋
One week left to submit a workshop proposal for ISEC 2027 in Mérida: statisticalecology.org
We're open to workshop topics covered in previous ISECs (www.isec2022.org/workshops/) & new topics like:
- machine learning/AI
- computer vision
- approximate/variational inference
- amortized inference
Tell us who to follow!!
Tag 👇🏽 the statisticians, statistical ecologists, ecological statisticians, quantitative ecologists, machine learning researchers with ecological interests, & everyone else we should be following.
#StatisticalEcology 📊🗺️💻🦋🐈⬛
Dr Alison Johnston develops & applies analytical methods to extract reliable information about biodiversity. She is particularly interested in how we can maximise the use of citizen science data and through this, how we can also learn about how humans engage with nature.
....our last plenary speaker for ISEC 2027 is...🥁
Dr. Alison Johnston 🎉
Co-director of the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling (CREEM) & Reader in Statistics at the University of St Andrews.
We've got a great plenary speaker lineup -- covering theoretical ecology, statistics, AI, conservation, disease ecology, animal movement, Bayesian stats, machine learning & more!
Deadline for workshops + round tables on Nov 15: statisticalecology.org (in English o en español)
Come join us!
His main interest are the mechanisms that determine ecosystem functions and diversity patterns, at the community scale as well as at biogeographical and evolutionary scales; Machine learning and its relation to (Bayesian) statistical methodology, conservation biology and ecological theory in general
📣 Plenary speaker #5:
Dr. Florian Hartig @florianhartig.bsky.social
Professor for theoretical ecology at the University of Regensburg. His research concentrates on theory, simulation models, statistical methods and data science / AI in ecology, evolution and conservation.
statisticalecology.org
It was conceived as an applied research organization, a promoter of basic research, which compiles and generates information on biodiversity, develops human capacities in the area of biodiversity informatics, and serves as a public source of information and knowledge accessible to all of society.
México is a mega diverse country - between 10 & 12% of the world’s species can be found in its territory. CONABIO's mission is to promote, coordinate, support & carry out activities aimed at understanding biological diversity, as well as its conservation & sustainable use for the benefit of society.
📣 Plenary speaker #4:
Dr. Patricia Koleff Osorio/CONABIO 🇲🇽
Dr. Koleff Osorio is director of the department of analysis and priority areas for the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity in México (la Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad - CONABIO).
More generally, Mevin has authored 3 books and more than 160 scientific publications in the areas of Bayesian and spatio-temporal statistics with applications in ecology, epidemiology, and environmental science.
He was elected fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2017.
📣 Plenary speaker #3:
Dr. Mevin Hooten 🐾
Professor of Statistics & Data Science at the University of Texas at Austin. Author of multiple books on Bayesian statistics and leading expert in statistical methods for the analysis of animal movement.
statisticalecology.org
Her lab is interested in how climate, species interactions, & global change drive infectious disease dynamics in humans & natural ecosystems. Projects cover:
- environmental drivers of vector-borne disease
- temperature effects on vector-transmitted diseases
- pathogen impacts on plant communities
📣 Plenary speaker #2:
Dr. Erin Mordecai
Associate Professor of Biology at Stanford University. Her lab uses mathematical models and empirical data to study the ecology of infectious diseases. 📈🦟
statisticalecology.org
He focuses on building theory by translating biological hypotheses to mathematical models, using modern inference to fit them to population, demographic, behavioural and physiological data, and applying the conclusions to wildlife conservation, natural resource management and risk assessment.
📣 Announcing our first plenary speaker:
Dr. Jason Matthiopoulos 🎉
He is a professor at the University of Glasgow whose work focuses on modelling the patterns and mechanisms that characterise spatial and population ecology.
statisticalecology.org
Previous workshops covered models for eDNA, animal movement, hierarchical Bayesian models, NIMBLE, Stan, INLA, space/habitat use, species distribution models, generalized additive models!
We're open to similar workshops + machine learning, AI topics.
Deadline Nov. 15th: statisticalecology.org 🧪
ISEC is a ~biennial conference that brings together statisticians, ecologists, & other quantitative researchers to develop & apply quantitative methods to answer critical ecological questions. 🦋📈🐾
