I was a huge fucking nerd in high school and even I knew "you're gonna get in trouble" was not a good response to a received threat.

The kid who shot this is gonna have to change schools. I'm sorry, there's no recovering from attempting to seem cool by praising ICE, then having a kid threaten to punch you and responding "You're gonna get in trouble!" Even if he didn't get punched. That's just RIDICULOUS.

I was listening to a podcast once and they were talking about police dept. budgets and one of the hosts said "Why wouldn't you want more cops? They're paid money to KEEP YOU SAFE!" and he was an actual adult. Like, a grown man believed that.

(I think we all know this deep down in our guts but it's nice to have a judge say it out loud from time to time as a helpful reminder.)

I don't know who needs to hear this but a court just ruled that it's not a police officer's job to protect you.

Working in tech now, I see this disconnect in close-up every day, and this is exactly it. People whose job is taking meetings, delegating, and Googling things think it's extraordinary. People who actually produce deliverables that matter and are used know that AI is not good at most things.
