Of the series to an outsider, that elden ring is how *all* of the games are, and that "armor doesn't matter" etc, when before those things were what could make the game more accessible to someone who didn't want to go light equip load + dodging extensive and long patterns

I still don't think difficulty options are the move, because the biggest part of the games is the shared experience and talking about *you* did something, but the shift away from armor and shields being able to do.. anything without going to the absolute extreme I think has hurt the perception

I would argue the older games are, 3 and beyond not so much. I don't hold it against them or view it as a bad thing, but demons souls is leaps and bounds more accessible to someone wanting to "see what these games are about" than elden ring imo.

That seems like a great idea for a sequel to a game who's most unique feature was that it had a soundtrack made by literally hundreds of artists

Right now I'd say paladin feels *fine*, but feels mostly like WAR/DRK with a targeted heal. It doesn't really feel amazing to play in dungeons, and it's incredibly linear rotation with low dps makes it feel very monotonous to play. For dungeons I don't really see a reason to not go warrior.

Stormblood paladin was the most fun I had ever had tanking in FFXIV, the job felt like it filled it's intended niche of being a lower dps high utility tank. Shield swipe and stance dancing to minmax what dps you could get kept it feeling fun during prog, and passage of arms is still the coolest CD.

You can actually see that happen in FF14, the content that usually receives the most complaints are the field operations, usually because of their obscure and multiplayer nature. The raid entrance requirements are the only complaints I've ever agreed with towards them tbh

The evolution of MMO dungeons is a topic that interests me greatly, from maze like lairs being a huge expedition... to the 20 min corridor

MMO's themselves changed from chat rooms with a game attached into being games with a chatroom attached as priorities shifted to polar opposites over the years

maybe it's also just that im kind of anti social but it feels like guilds in games just don't really exist except as a way to keep track of a discord in game. like it's just a list of names that don't really talk outside of discord.

when you play mmos do you ever want to join a guild/company/team w.e but can never find one you like? i feel like it's rolling a gacha in most modern mmos where you either get a dead 12 person one or a 400 person mega guild where it's ran like a business
