I was a registered Democrat for 43 years. Until about a year ago, when I realized how feckless, unprincipled, weak, directionless, and, really, contemptuous of their own base the party is. I went unaffiliated. You should, too.

But the Democrats, predictably, did give up the fight, proving once again that the party has no principles upon which it is willing to stand. "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" is a perfect description of Democrat spinelessness this weekend.

Their wealthy donors, and the leaders of the corporations that will give them sweet gigs as directors on their boards after they retire, had a problem with the flight slowdowns at airports. They couldn't let the billionaires and corporate execs be mad. That's what they care about.

But Polis is not.

Expecting more than a few Democratic senators to have a backbone or principles has often been shown to be a silly way to think. They will cave. They always do. And the party's leadership has neither principles nor much concern for those who voted for Dem candidates.

If the Democrats in the U.S. Senate, or even just enough of them for it to pass, support a "deal" to reopen the gov't in return for a "promise" to hold a vote on Obamacare finances, then it will prove what is obvious: The Democratic Party has no fight in it. It's a house of cards with no principles.

I haven't seen Colorado's famously irresolute governor, Jared Polis, say what he should to the regime's attempt to claw back SNAP funds: "no." Polis agrees with Trump on too much to take a strong stand against him when necessary.

This is not news. And it's no one's business whether a politician follows adult entertainers or even adult sex workers online. That is not illegal.

I still believe that it's inappropriate to speak ill of the dead when insulting comments are not based on a complete and fair understanding of a person's entire life and whole contribution to society. We all make mistakes and do things we regret. They don't, or shouldn't, entirely define our life.

Why are Democrats negotiating with themselves? It's up to Republicans, who run Congress, to compromise. Once they do, then Dems can meet them in the middle somewhere. But you need to force the GOP to bend first. Otherwise you make the same mistake Democrats often do - placating the opposition.

Pelosi's retirement in Jan. 2027 will be 16 or so years later than it should have been. If you are age 70 or over, you are not getting my vote nor the vote of most people I know even when we agree with your priorities and policy preferences. You are too old to serve at that age. Retire. Now.

Pelosi should have retired in 2010, after the Democrats lost control of the House in that autumn's election or, better yet, ahead of the Nov. 2010 election. She was an excellent speaker in her first turn at the job and could have set the example that age 70 or so is the right time, always, to leave.

In Hencely v. Fluor Corp., 20 states signed a bipartisan amicus brief asking the justices to overturn a ruling granting immunity to a defense contractor. This incident of Colorado Democrats cozying up to lobbyists in Vail and dodging our state's ethics law tells me quite clearly that they have contempt for the public's commitment to honest government. And I hope they pay a steep political price for it.

State law enforcement officers need to start arresting ICE and Border Patrol agents and state AGs need to start prosecuting them. Now.

Please help her.

Political conservatism does not equal, and never has equaled, masculinity. That's because being a real man is about things like honesty, compassion, curiosity, ambition, and reliability. It's not about adopting right-wing ideologies. Obviously.

Dear @mlb.com owners and @robmanfred.bsky.social: Baseball has regained a special place in the hearts of Americans, Canadians, and people in other parts of the world. Don't screw it up with a lockout in spring 2027.

Yes, they were. The @bluejays.com will be back. And how can you not love baseball? No sport offers more drama, more excitement, more emotion, a more compelling intersection of skill and fortune, and a more fascinating history.

The @losangelesdodgers.bsky.social have a big payroll, yes, but the team invests it in very good players and you cannot deny that those guys are resilient and tough. And clearly the Dodgers ownership cares about winning, which is something we don't have here in Colorado.

I encountered Vermeule's ideas about how to read the Constitution several years ago and asked him what the historical basis for them are. He not only refused to answer, he blocked me. I think the guy is fundamentally authoritarian in his thinking about the law and, yes, very much like the Nazis.

The regime thinks it gets to pick and choose the laws it must obey. And, of course, SCOTUS apparently agrees.

Wild.

Anyone who spies for Russia or China or any other U.S. adversary, or who helps those countries, should spend the rest of their life in prison. Especially if they are in the armed forces.
