How a High School Librarian in Abilene Fought Back Against Moms for Liberty I entered this profession just as the storm clouds of the current book-banning push were starting to gather; now I’m in the middle of it.

"After two months of sitting through board meetings dominated by Moms for Liberty, the librarian at the other high school, Kate Stover, and I began inviting parents to come and voice their own perspectives."

I realized that after 12 years, I don't actually know who or where Ken Paxton's base is. When he did poorly in hometown DFW I was worried my strongest warrior had missed a step. But he's only 2.5 points shy now and I'm less impressed by Big John

A yard sign for Matt Thorsen, candidate for House District 67, in which he proclaims that he is "NOT A RINO." A yard sign for Rep. Jeff Leach, incumbent for House District 67, in which he proclaims that he is "NOT A PSYCHO."

Wild things happening in the Texas Republican primaries.

What It Feels Like Getting Stopped by ICE My work for Texas Monthly demands hundreds of hours on the road each year. Being pulled over by immigration enforcement officers has felt like an inevitability for months.

I don't believe in destiny. I don't believe hard work is rewarded. We don't live in a meritocracy. But I believe in inevitability as the result of a series of variables of which one has no control. Being pulled over by ICE is example of chilling inevitability.

Interesting phrasing from the PD's spokeswoman: “The fact-finding mission was planned efficiently to allow investigators the ability to divide and conquer a large footprint of museums and see the artwork on display in real time,” Kretz said.

‘pro’ (“forward”) + ‘crastinus’ (“of tomorrow”)

‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’

It was originally ‘ekename.’

‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.”

Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it.

Over time, 'an ekename' became 'a nickname.'
