Tuition fees are rising again and nobody is happy – it’s time to actually fix our broken university sector | Zoe Williams The figures simply don’t add up for higher education in England and Wales. Yet delusional politicians from all parties seem intent on avoiding the issue, says Guardian columnist Zoe Williams

'Put simply, we have a really strange system in higher education, where nobody admits how much things actually cost, nobody admits who’s paying for what, research is kept alive on the toil and goodwill of underpaid academics....'

Recognising all those who drive research excellence: REF 2029 and research enabling staff  – REF 2029

Rather a narrow definition of 'enabling' here. Teaching/teaching & scholarship staff also play vital enabling roles at most universities, enabling teaching & research staff to have some time for research by managing disproportionate student numbers.

To save UK higher education, start talking about knowledge - Research Professional News Until debate on universities foregrounds their core purposes, their woes will deepen, says Margot Finn

If the marketing team is struggling to understand what universities do and are for, they can read this by a former Warwick professor, HoD, research centre founder/director and PVC. 3/3

My word as an influencer guides millions so I don't do this often, but if you're fed up of fancy pants restaurants in Glasgow's West End, you could do worse than heading to Sam's in Hardgate. Really good authentic Italian food. It's BYOB, but corkage is a fiver and you can buy at Tesco's next door.

You were at Scarborough, huge envy. Is this the festival? Was down there last week for other reasons and watched a bit of an evening club game. It's such a lovely ground.

Because their salaries are minuscule by international standards and they work unsocial hours. Security is also important and entertaining constituents is part of the job. Can we discuss something more important now?

The embroidery was likely commissioned by Odo of Bayeux, the design developed at St Augustine's Abbey under Abbot Scolland and then stitched by a group of women. England was famed for its embroidery. #BayeuxTapestry 2/

It tells the story of the events leading up to the invasion of England by Duke William II of Normandy in 1066. We see all sorts of scenes and landscapes. Some like 'Ubi unus clericus et Aelfgyfa' are enigmatic. #BayeuxTapestry
