not much rpg experience but sun in shadow in pillars of eternity had me spellbound beginning to end

the empire vs colony story feels like a defanged version of deadfire, the spiritual story feels more mysterious but may just be spinning wheels to a quite boring conclusion. feels like there is a lot less care in the dialogue than in pillars. characters don't have much to say but speak a lot anyway.

i'm enjoying it right now for just having a satisfying gameplay loop and out of curiosity to see what the future direction of the pillars world might be. but the moment-to-moment writing is honestly quite poor compared to pillars imo.

same here in northern england. recently switched to a different gp because i couldn't get an appointment on that system but at the new gp i can only get a telephone appointment in advance.

each conversation has a glossary you can bring up for any Proper Nouns mentioned (of which there are many from the early conversations ive had). but yeah so far, even as a pillars-head, im mainly enjoying it as an improved (fantasy) outer worlds. mildly-swagged, will see how it goes

it captured what was great about the game to me. i felt like my understanding of everything was being interrogated and judged. a few story screens and i was staring into space, questioning it all. what a game.

then you wake up, again immersed in the intrigue and politics of the world that are still churning. Does any of it matter anymore? Or is it all more relevant than ever? I was speechless, i had to lie down for a bit before continuing.

the game juggles the fate of the universal, a great cataclysm that cannot be stopped with a deeply personal moment where you're confronted with a fragment of your soul, asking whether you are the same person as you were before your quest began. Is anyone ever the same as who they were?

to me, the climax of the game was learning eothas's motive at the heart of an erupting volcano. not only was the spectacle fuckin sick as hell but also it's where everything about the game so far came into focus. the rest of the story felt grand and inevitable from this point.
