Of course it's Renee Good. Sorry about that.
06.02.2026 02:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 011/ In the end there was a lot of time to ponder the life of a guy whose last words were 'Are you OK'. And a community drawn together by the bicycle, a device that for many offers a sense of freedom. We all have a lot to think about.
04.02.2026 07:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 010/ A demographic note, the bike riders were overwhelmingly white. But South Minneapolis is very diverse. People came out on a cold day in the areas that had been hardest hit to see the spectacle and cheer. And those people were black and brown in many different shades and ethnicities.
04.02.2026 07:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 09/ The Rachel Good memorial. In spite of the cold weather a LOT of people came out of their houses to cheer and support the message we were bringing.
04.02.2026 07:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 08/ Another pic that I got from facebook. If they gave out 1000 vests there were several thousand riders that didn't get one.
There was no police presence. It was the riders and the neighborhood. There was a strong sense of community.
7/ Not my picture, I stole this from facebook. I never saw the front or the back of the line. The picture appears to show a clear street in the distance but that's a turn on the way to the VA hospital where Alex Pretti worked.
04.02.2026 07:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 06/ The roll past the spot where Alex Pretti was killed was slow and solemn.
Was it cold? Yes, it was cold. 10F/-12C when I parked my car.
5/ The rollout was very gradual and took a long time. We didn't start moving for maybe 15 minutes after the rollout started. It was after 2:00 when we left the park, still walking.
Once underway the stream of people was endless. It was a slow moving group so no one got dropped.
4/ A little after 1:30 there was a brief build up. The crowd was too big to address with megaphones so we did a call and response 'FUCK ICE' - 'ICE OUT' repeating until the leader got hoarse.
'WHOSE STREETS' - 'OUR STREETS' with repeats.
3/ As the crowd grew the staging areas for new arrivals began to form out of my sight. They began filling the neighboring streets in several directions. There was no way for me to see the size of the crowd at 1:30.
04.02.2026 07:16 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 02/ I was there early, 12:45 for a 1:30 start. I was there with friends and we chatted while the crowd built.
I could see a steady stream of riders arriving, pretty much without break. Until the park (Washburn/Fair Oaks in South Minneapolis) began to fill.
1/ I went to the Alex Pretti Honor Ride in Minneapolis. I allowed time for traffic disruptions, there were no traffic disruption. So I got there early.
There was a guy with boxes of high vis safety vests, getting there early meant that I got one. There were several boxes, 1000 in total.
I came from Wisconsin. It was a great ride today.
01.02.2026 05:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Studded tires were a solid majority on the ride today. Ice cleats for your bike.

22.01.2026 00:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I had forgotten about Kissinger. As bad as he is, Trump hasn't (yet) killed as many people as Kissinger. He's got something to aspire to.
I'm looking forward to the creation of the IOC Peace Prize. I wonder if they're having any 2nd thoughts about awarding the 2028 Games to LA.
I was getting it from Sporza. Even though I was virtually in Belgium, Gavere wouldn't play until I loaded a Google(!) plugin.
Tiz still works. But I wonder if The Google, which owns Youtube, is screwing with us.
Firefox is telling me about a Digital Rights Management extension. I've not seen that before.
28.12.2025 17:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One last porthole shot before heading back.
Another view of Dragon Rock. At some point the lake will tip it over.
Sea cave tour continued.
24.11.2025 18:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sea cave portholes.
Similar to Dragon Rock but still connected to shore. Mushroom Rock?
There are additional caves as you proceed, but they are less spectacular.
But that's a nice overhang.
As you move along the shore the bluffs get less tall. The entire shoreline is privately owned and that means it gets harder to get pictures without houses and other development.
24.11.2025 18:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is the backside of the cave shown in the video.
Swallow nests.
A close up of the swallow nests. These are not uncommon in Lake Superior sea caves.
More channels and rock formations.
A word about wetsuits. I have a 3mm farmer john bottom and a 2mm top. That was good. I also had 1mm socks. 1mm won't cut it, my feet got cold.
If I dumped I'm confident I would make it to shore. I'm less confident I'd be happy about it.
This is one of the cooler rock formations.

Bono Creek sea caves.
Looking out at the bay.
Sea cave tour continued... some interesting rock formations.
24.11.2025 18:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Put in at Bono Creek, the first caves are about a quarter mile away. The first ones are not very spectacular but it gets much better.
Some caves show evidence of a higher lake level.
Dragon Rock.
It was cold enough for ice formation along the bluffs. You will need a wetsuit for this paddle.
A November sea cave tour in Chequamegon Bay south of Washburn. The bay is nice in that if the wind is from the north or west you've got sheltered water. Click through and I will tell you all about it.
You will need a wetsuit in November, don't kid yourself.
I'd put a plug in that thought.
13.11.2025 22:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Both farmstead sites have geocaches. If you are looking for a geocache, this is a hint.
Barn foundation.
Looking for a geocache? Here is a hint.
Happy Island continued... There are two farmstead sites on the east end of the island. Everything that could be moved to the mainland was. Except for the pickup. But there are foundations and a couple of silos still there.
06.11.2025 06:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you leave a vehicle in the wood eventually the vegetation will take over. I've seen pictures of the truck in that state, someone has spent some time clearing the space. There's a geocache nearby, that might explain it.
Happy Island continued... There's an old pickup still out there. Finding it isn't too hard. If you find a trail, follow it. There is enough traffic to the pickup that it's pretty easy to make out.
06.11.2025 06:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A farmstead remnant.
Might have been tossed aside by a farmer. But might also have been left by a hunter or a beer party attendee.
The woods are easier to navigate. Less nasty underbrush.
The gas can was probably left by the farmer.
Happy Island continued... The sawmill has been gone for over a century. The farmers stayed until flooding drove them off. That was around 80 years ago. Like the sawmill closing, all the structures were moved to the mainland, leaving a few agricultural remnants.
