GCU and New Mexico both losing tonight adds a little cushion between SDSU and everyone not named Utah State in the standings.
3 of the next 4 at home. Aztecs are in a good spot.

Big win for the Aztecs. Won, and won with a big margin. Hopefully they can heal up a bit over the break without losing any momentum.
Wyo was giving the Aggies a game, but it’s looking like there will still be a tie at first place at the end of the night.

Hopefully this is the bounce back game BJ needed. If both him and RDW are scoring efficiently this will be a hard team to beat. Byrd still struggling to score but doing everything else well.

Maybe. Idk how much of that is offset by the Aztecs beating New Mexico though. Maybe it isn’t off set at all? This is why I’m glad I’m not a bracketologist. 😅😭

Idk. That would assume the committee is not giving a certain amount of slots to MW teams. And I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

Actually, shoot. If that happens Utah State gets 1 seed for having the tie breaker. So in reality SDSU will either need some help OR will need to run the table to finish in sole possession of first place.

I think I'm rooting for Utah State over New Mexico tonight on the road. If the top-3 teams all splt thier series and don't lose any remaining games than New Mexico finishes in fisrt. But, If the aggies sweep the lobos and Aztecs beat Aggies at home, then I think Aztecs take first place.

If they can pull that off they'll be 13-2 heading into the home stretch, and at least one of New Mexico or Utah State will have taken a third loss.

Winning the next 4 games is crucial. The good news: 3 of the next four are at home. Also, 3 of the next four are against teams the Aztecs already beat. (The exception being GCU, and if they have another shooting night like last time, then bet on them for the Natty.)

Man. Wasn’t able to watch the game cause I was working. But every time I checked the score Aztecs were winning until the very end. I was expecting a loss, but dang they were close.

I think so too. But I think I’m even more interested in winning the last title before leaving the conference.

On the Utah state side, getting offensive rebounds prevents the Aztecs from running, which lets the Aggies set up their defense and make it as confusing as possible, taking advantage of SDSU’s turnover woes.

It’s so boring to say, but I think the biggest factor today is the glass. Utah State is the best offensive rebounding team in the conference, and they’re ok but not great on the defensive glass. Limiting second chances and getting a few themselves would really help out the Aztecs.

If SDSU, Utah State, and New Mexico each split their series and don’t drop any other remaining games, this is the outcome. Lobos would win another championship. Aztecs a 2 seed.

Aztecs going into Logan tomorrow, no Goon, Likely no LZ, coming off a Wednesday nightcap, lot of factors going against them. If the Aztecs can pull it off it’s a huge boost. If not they’re still in ok shape. Gotta go 4-1 over the next 5.

Michigan State has the #1 defense in the country according to KenPom. Michigan has scored 40 and the first half isn’t even over yet.

FWIW, San Diego State is the 21st best team in Torvik since January 1st. Utah State is 39th.

Does it mean anything? No. But it gives me a sliver of hope.

These have been the top players in the Mountain West this season when combining PIPM and BPR, as of 1/29/26.

They still have Nevada on the road as well. Aztecs 2nd half is harder than the first half, but Aggies have the same thing, so having a lead over them in the standings at this point is huge.

Down a starting PG, down a starting PF, Aztecs still win by 23. They’re right where they need to be to win the conference.

These things always tend to balance out in the end.
