27.03.2025 23:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs part of the efficiency numbers but the game by game results are the last column on the schedule portion of the team pages
21.03.2025 23:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the big differ nice is that my ol model incorporates an average lead/deficit (game control) component.
21.03.2025 22:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hepburn and Storr out in the first round. You truly hate to see it.
21.03.2025 01:25 β π 17 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Agree that ironies and hypocrisies abound, and get that mid-majors have been regularly excluded on Quad 1 groundsβbut for the future, leaving quadramania behind is best for all and WAB is the way
19.03.2025 14:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But when you question *why* people think those 13 games matter so much more than than the other 20, the answer you (often) get is that they are the kind of games played in the tourney. And the reason *that* matters, supposedly, is that they indicate how a team will perform in those games
19.03.2025 14:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah. This graphic from @heycg.bsky.social reflects that -- note how Xavier's 1-9 Quad 1 record is actually substantially worse than UNC's 1-12, in WAB.
19.03.2025 14:22 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0So if UNC performs well against actual tourney teams, it undermines this argument. The fact is, looking at records in a subset games is not the best way to evaluate how good is. It's best to look at all the games, and that's true whether you're judging resumΓ© or quality.
19.03.2025 13:57 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I somewhat disagree that nothing UNC does in the tournament can justify their inclusion. The flaw in UNC's resumΓ© is their 1-12 record in Quad 1. When I ask why that is so much more important than sterling record in other games, the answer is that it proves they can't beat tourney quality teams.
19.03.2025 13:57 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0This one might be getting out of hand.
19.03.2025 02:58 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Happy Selection Monday! Go to KenPom and grab the top six. Don't sweat "top 20 for both offensive and defensive efficiency" or any such overly intricate pretensions.
Also now that the committee speaks WAB we no longer need a committee. How Hegelian.

Left a bit more "uncertainty" in the TourneyCast simulations this year and the final run yesterday morning left room for some of the madness that came. (The downside was that the model was way under-confident about 1-seeds, but still had the right ones at the top)
17.03.2025 14:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Forget UNC. The committee's off-base evaluation of West Virginia is the real disaster. (Free for everyone.)

With the exception of Xavier over WVU, the field was entirely predictable by WAB for at-large selection, right? That is amazing progress, honestly. Now just stop with the injury stuff and we have a good system. (Easy solution: limit the committee to just bracketing the teams that qualify by WAB.)
17.03.2025 03:23 β π 45 π 6 π¬ 6 π 3done, thanks. Sorry - something extremely weird happened (line of code got commented out on remote computer?) that caused that to stop updating yesterday.
