Very cool paper from Hamburg! Urinary CD4+ T cells identify Sjögren's patients with nephritis and help monitor treatment response! Awesome work!

Description of a prescription cascade, when an initial prescription for pregabalin or amlodipine causes leg oedema leading to addition of furosemide which causes urinary incontinence. This leads to a RX for Solifenacin which causes cognitive decline and a prescription for Don Pascale. The subsequent anorexia and an insomnia leads to mirtazapine prescription and a hip fracture from a fall. This of course leads to many other cascades, including delirium, haloperidol and levodopa, risedronate, and pantoprazole, or iron and constipation with peg.

From @carolyntan.bsky.social

This is a work of art

Have to agree that amlodipine and gabapentin/pregabalin often lead to heart failure misdiagnosis

We’ve just initiated the final center change in our stepped-wedge Sweet-Water trial! Aiming to include approximately 4,500 patients by the end of the year — we’re extremely curious to see what we’ll find out. Should Glucose 5% be the universal drug solvent? #nephsky #nephrology #IntensiveCare

Could we have more #ccr25 content on Bluesky please?

While I still have access to the other place, it’s not much fun seeing random X crap in between thoughtful takes about the utility of NFL

I am sure the NIH is/was the most important funder worldwide; nevertheless, these numbers seem odd - the European Union spent more than 388 million in 2022 on biomedical research!

Stacked area chart showing the cumulative number of preprints indexed by Europe PMC from 2020 to 2025. The x-axis represents the years, while the y-axis represents the cumulative number of preprints, reaching over 900,000 by 2025. Different colours represent various preprint servers, including Research Square (largest share), bioRxiv, Preprints.org, medRxiv, PsyArXiv, Authorea Preprints, SSRN, and Others. The chart highlights the steady growth of preprint publications over time.

Flow-cytometric quantification of urine kidney epithelial cells specifically reflects tubular damage in acute kidney diseases Despite tubular injury being one of the main mechanisms driving acute kidney injury (AKI), clinicians still have a limited diagnostic repertoire to precisely monitor damage to tubular epithelial cells...

Happy to announce that this is out! A flow cytometry-based quantification of urinary kidney tubular epithelial cells (TECs) as a biomarker for kidney damage in AKI and ANCA vasculitis.

Same thoughts here, but I am torn. I assume (hope) that most nephrology colleagues are not fans of the current U.S. administration. However, by boycotting KW, would we be weakening those whom we ought to support? And which congresses could we attend instead? Certainly not ERA-EDTA in Austria...
