The thing is, with the current bent of mainstream media, I have absolutely no doubt that a "wave of violence" against ICE, were one actually occurring, would be plastered all over front pages.

As with Portland and Chicago being hellholes, this is entirely invented.

Frankly, I think the pardon power was always a bad idea - basically, a holdover from monarchy, and a disaster waiting to happen.

In this case, we're talking about infamous crimes against the Constitution and liberal democracy, and they DEMAND legendary punishments.

Government can do a lot to cut those companies loose. And I'm sure corporate tax rises and a stiff wealth tax would do us a world of good.

That is ENTIRELY your invention.

Judicial branch employees are paid by the judicial branch.

If we want to get into things he could illegally do, he could have ICE storm and occupy courthouses, and disappear judges.

That's not what I mean. Judiciary employees are not in the executive branch - Trump cannot tell them to work or not work, nor can he fire them.

SCOTUS (ridiculously) overruling lower courts without explanation is a different matter, and I fully agree with you on that.

To be clear, I'm not saying I'm not looking forward to seeing Russ shipped off to Leavenworth. I will watch that with great pleasure, and think every day about the trauma he will experience.

As a fed, I say "bring it on". They could do this already, anyway. This will bring added political damage to them - and for me, eventual rehiring with backpay + interest, as the move would be entirely illegal.

This is about saving the republic I and other feds swore to protect.

He has no power over judicial branch employees whatsoever.

And it really doesn't matter - anything that matters to the admin will be appealed to SCOTUS, which will rule for him, without explanation, on the shadow docket.

Standing up to them is the only move.

The reality is, they could do this without a shutdown. This is mafioso tactics. And it should be treated as bad-faith BS from an admin that views you with contempt.

It is - and the bottom line is, the admin will appeal anything they care about up to SCOTUS, and get their way on the shadow docket.

Also, as noted elsewhere, they don't need a shutdown to enact mass firings.

This is entirely a scare tactic.
