The start of a new month already!? @waub.bsky.social wrote that the Anishinaabe name for this month is Onaabenii-giizis, meaning moon of the crusted snow, which matches the snow conditions here in Ottawa right now, and is also the title of his apocalyptic novel ecwpress.com/products/moo... .

I love Saskatchewan so much I'm coming back for a 2nd visit this winter! If you're in North Battleford, please come to the library on Wednesday to hang out. In the afternoon I'll share some writing advice with students, and in the evening I'll talk about the path to Moon of the Turning Leaves

My only complaint about hearing “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” a million times this past week is being repeatedly subjected to Gordon Lightfoot’s butchering of “gichi gami”. He clearly didn’t have a Anishinaabemowin speaker nearby during songwriting!
