Before smartphones, we really didn't take pictures as much. When I was 16, it was all film photos -- we had to go buy a film, take 24 or 36 pictures, then take it back to a store, pay $10 or so, wait for a few days for pictures to be ready! I really didn't have a photo of me in high school.

In case anyone's wondering, the profile pic is a product of AI. I uploaded a recent photo of me and ran an age regression prompt (down to age 16).
