volume, how they conform to a body, and design is infinitely more important. you'll never be in a position where you're stuggling with a drawing and a tutorial about a singular fold will be helpful to you. (2/3)

having done a ton of clothing studies last month (smth ive always been shit at) and now constantly seeing 'folds tutorials': folds are easy, and almost entirely irrelevant if youre trying to learn to draw clothes. (1/3)

finished Emperor of Thorns. think I forgot to post about it. had a blast, super entertaining edgefest though the endings of every book came a bit fast.

also finished Apocalypse Nyx by Kameron Hurley, picked up randomly on name recognition. Was a v entertaining short story collection, will read more

warmups in that sense only clicked for me when i tried drawabox (exactly the exercises described) and noticed how much easier thinking in volume came afterwards.

that said its a pain, i do low stakes studies, figure draw, copy patterns etc while resisting autopilot until i feel everything working

i cant speak to ZZ but it took me like 4 years to get 7 episodes deep into zeta, im not watching either lmao

my most recent 'learn to draw clothes' project has made me entirely relearn how I draw people, which i think means it's working

it also might not have been ideal to do suits before jeans+tshirt but i got into it

because there's auch a big disconnect in my figure drawing vs clothes knowledge, the latter makes the shortcomings of the former painfully obvious

i can learn the shapes of pieces of clothing by themselves and end up with a much better but completely different stylistic outcome
