As February draws to a close, I have to admit defeat. Goblin Run got way from me. Scope creep and not knowing how to overcome some of the limitations won.
For March, i want to try a democene #pico8 cart. I'm no #picomusic artist, but I want to try.

Have you ever gotten so deep in the weeds with a programming project that has gotten wildly overgrown with scope creep that it causes intense fear and you just sit and stare at the editor? Not knowing where to even pick up?
I just stare at it, and want to just punt on it, start something new.

Shit. I just saw a new #PHP was released back in Heshvan. Iβve been ducking #webdev for a while in favor of #Lua #gamedev.
Looks like Iβll have to take another shot at PHP this spring.

My February #Pico8 project is going to run over, mainly because of scope creep.
Goblin Run is getting a refactor to add in some limited combat elements. Shifting it from a Frogger-like to a speedrun-esque. Still #Incremental.
Might do a version as a proper #rogue-like too.

I, uh, might have understated how much code goes into the backend of an incremental genre of game. Holy if-then statements. So. Many. Tables. and. If-Then. Statements.

My plan for Goblin Run is to include a bit of incremental style stuff in it. Collect coins, at end of a run buy improvements.

Midweek Goblin Run update.
On a work trip, so I have some time to work on Goblin Run.
Progress on the basic gameplay loop continues. animations, spawning, collision and pickups are now working more or less how I want them to for now.

I'm going to tr to finish 12 smallish Pico8 or similar games in 2026. That's one per month.
I've already finised up January's game, Slimagotchi, on paintedogre.itch.io/slimagotchi.
For February I'm making a Frogger-like meets an Incremental. Goblin Run.
