When the interpreter wept: What automation erases inside Europe’s institutions We are building a world that treats translation as a problem to be solved. But translation was never just a technical challenge — it is an act of witnessing.

"I am here. Are you?"
If you don't understand the importance of this text, if you are dedicating all your time to AI, don't complain about what the world is becoming.

In this day and age, living in a place that
- you like,
- you can afford,
- you can find a job,
- you have family/friends,
- you feel safe, and
- you *are* safe from natural disasters/bad laws/worse

is luxury and privilege. Almost no one gets to check all the boxes.

So maybe don’t be an asshole.

In this journey down memory lane, at my alma mater, I realised that I have a degree in #LLMs from the early 1990's.

Before you think we were way ahead of our time, note that at the time, LLM meant "Línguas e Literaturas Modernas" (modern languages and literatures).
