If I really wanted to wax on about American baseball I might suggest that Team USA's stern, militaristic take on things is reflective of the greater American capitalist, patriarchal culture that forces men to stifle any expression of emotion save for anger and any act of unity save for violence
I decided to check this and it's true: the Avs powerplay shots are, per-shot, nearly the least threatening in the league.
(Also, the Stars/Nights/Oilers are primarily generating better /quality/ shots rather than shooting more often (although there is some speed too, for EDM and VGK)).
