It is notable that variations of the Samesies myth of The Wave of Mutilation exist across many gender variant communities, This monument stands as a permanentreminder of the reclamation of the very idea of mutilation, and the variety ofways that Samesies can healthily arrive in utopia.

…that they constructed in the shape of a pregnant seahorse to form Samesies Island. Once believed to be the only means to arrive on Samsies Island, theWave of Mutilation is now understood to be a myth.

An inflatable blue soft sculpture made of nylon and woven shopping bags in front of a row of windows.

I’ve been thinking of this older work lately. This is “The Wave of Mutilation” from 2015- and yes it’s a Pixies nod.

The Wave of Mutilation” is a semi–permanent wave off of the coast of Samesies Island. The wave appeared when a group of transmen decided to set sea in search of utopia…

Reminding me that we used to have a very similar object in our house growing up…

Don't wait to make your freaky kinky weird queer art. Don't wait until you feel more secure in your drawing/painting/painting/sculpture/performance skills. Do it now, cause your fellow queers need every drop of it.

A short musing on the co**p

Racism is the avatar of class struggle.
It's the sword and the shield of capitalism.
It is also why we are in this mess:

-Failed Reconstruction
-Lost Cause Mythology
-Conservative backlash against Brown. V. Board
-Neoliberalism

What did we expect?

A group of students came up with the phrase “GAFer” in class yesterday. I told them it sounds like a position in a film/tv set. They said it stands for “give a fuck”-er, as in, someone who cares as opposed to IDGAF. Brilliant.

Yes I’m wondering too. Or will trans people in this situation just have to hope for an informed sympathetic agent at the border coming and going?

if you send me a screenshot of a donation of $25 or more to an organization helping immigrants (like Immigration Equality) or trans people (like Transgender Law Center) I will send you an Atlas and pay for shipping myself.

A close up of a tree in space with a winged elephant (a pegaphant) nestled near the center surrounded by a variety of fruit and flowers. A close up of a map of Espejio, an imaginary trans/queer utopia by Foster and Aileen Santiago. Features include a Giant Talking Flamboyant Tree, Free Trans Healthcare clinic and a taxi service run by frogs.

Maybe you need some queer/trans utopian dreaming in your life? For the cost of shipping (about $5), I will send you a copy of 5 maps of collaboratively imagined trans/queer utopias in A Different Horizon Atlas made by me and over 20 collaborators. Or,

How to be a trans ally in academia today (opinion) What it means to be an ally has changed, Chelsea Thompto writes.

I have been thinking a lot about what this next administration will bring and about how universities can be proactive in protecting and supporting trans faculty, staff and students. I wrote about here:

Horizons give me hope. They are all around us, they are in everything around you if you allow your scale to shift. This sculpture was made before the election in September last year, and envisions preserving history and hope in a safer space, inside a horizon.
