God willing it stops when the US stops, but it is extremely worrying.

Watching an FPV drone slowly hunt through a US base is giving me Premonitions

It's way easier to do that when it's done primarily by Spike and FPVs launched by teams hanging out next to the base rather than F-15Es (also the Israelis massively overstated their effectiveness let's be real here)

most informed state department staffer moment

my parallel at State could NOT understand the difference between the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Lebanese Forces, despite this being a very relevant piece of information when discussing Lebanon.

>you rule a country that has a long rivalry with iran
>you've skirmished with them recently
>massive unrest in iran convinced you they will collapse with a forceful attack
>the war drags out longer than expected

Why Egypt isn't absolutely ringing every phone in AVIC's sales department off the damn hook is beyond me.

Israel's intentions in south Lebanon are also genocidal, btw.

A new generation of IDF veterans gets to make shitty saccharine movies about how it made them sad that they lost a war in Lebanon, and a new generation of politicians get to shit their pants like they did in 2000.

I'll believe it when I see it - they said they were gonna do this back in Oct 2024, and then proceeded to very much not do that.

We know at least some Hawk missiles (which is the most common static SAM Iran has) have been launched, so there's still a chance we lose a fighter or something to one of Ollie's Hawks.

Like, it has one single obvious air defense site - an obsolescent Hawk/Mersad battery. There isn't even a rifle range like there is on basically every single Iranian military facility I've looked at.

I'm gonna be real I've looked at Kharg Island a lot and while it's impossible to see everything on satellite images of course, Kharg island isn't exactly bristling with obvious, juicy military targets.

This is pretty much what we did to Iraq in '90/'91. They're still rebuilding this infrastructure over 30 years later.

A pretty good overview of Iran's strategy and their apparent competent execution thereof. Noting much is made about Iran's 95% reduction in attacks from the first day, which is true. But their attacks since the 2nd or 3rd day have been mostly holding at a steady amount.

And you can see refueling and support/intelligence/radar aircraft on various flight tracker websites hanging out over Jordan, KSA, et al and I seriously doubt they're just doing training missions. These countries are combatant countries, whether they like it or not.

Anyway, the US is moving a Marine expeditionary unit to "the Region" during an Imposed War explicitly aimed at fracturing the Iranian state on behalf of a regional rival.

The defense of the city held for 6 weeks, resulted in the death of thousands of Iraqi soldiers, and delayed the Iraqi advance enough for the Iranians to move reinforcements through the critical Zagros passes, permanently stalling the Iraqi advance.

The city was defended by a largely uncoordinated mix of local police, revolutionary militias, and a handful of regular military units without heavy weapons.

At the start of the Iran-Iraq war, Iraq sent its elite commando units and an armored division to capture the lightly defended and geographically isolated city of Khorramshahr, just across the Shat al-Arab river that formed the border between the two countries.
