I have less of an issue when it’s an established character!

Compelling!

Oh that’s a solid take. I hadn’t thought about it in a historical sense.

That would be fascinating!

Ooo! The conspiracy angle! I like it! I thought it was just men in various positions on the publication chain reinforcing stereotypes so the book is “believable.”

Yep! It would’ve been a fun profile to write. Could be a book if I gathered more stories about girls basketball teams that formed right after Title IX.

I recently read All the Other Mothers Hate Me and expected the MC Florence who I immediately loved for saying the things other moms won’t say to turn into a character I’d find hard to stomach later (moms who are bad at being moms are a hard read for me). But she never did! Such a fun character.

Hah! This happened to me as well!

There was this old substitute at my school. Later I learned that she was one of the first high school girls basketball coaches in our area and was a pioneer in women’s sports. For years I thought about interviewing her, but I recently learned she passed away.

Total missed opportunity!

I really struggle with female rivalries/jealousy when it’s clear they would be friends if they weren’t pitted against each other by society’s expectations. I love writing women supporting women! I also love women who eat and women who bond over food. Diet culture = gross.

Female friendships are super important! In the book I’m querying, my MC has a BFF for the first time in her life and she’s terrified of losing her if she has to move. I’m still getting to know the friend in my WIP, but there’s a good chance she’s a ghost who MC is accidentally keeping here.

Hi! I’m so glad I caught this tonight. I’m Jessica in Oregon with a 9yo and a 4yo.

I’m querying a YA fantasy and working on a YA speculative mystery that is Pushing Daisies meets The Agathas.

Me: Basketball season is over and now I have extra time and brain space to be creative!

My Brain: But what about all those adulting things you set aside for when you “have more time”??

4 yr old: Mommy! I peed my pants! Again!

So, anyway, extra time is a myth. I still got my writing in, though 💪💪

I was serenaded in Elvish by a lovely Scottish tenor at a social gathering for my new choir.

Oh how I missed being part of a musical community ❤️❤️

It’s the last day of February and I officially hit 25k on the new manuscript.

Goal = achieved!

I think I’m going to hit my February word count goal! This, despite kid illnesses, basketball coaching, and keeping up with the querying process.

Feels gooooooood.

Stay tuned for an official update on March 1!

That is terrifying. I’m so glad there’s an effort to reverse this idiocy!

This morning in those precious twilight moments between sleeping and waking I had thunderbolt of a brainwave that’s completely upending my WIP in the best possible way.

I found my story’s third rail/thorn in the side/thing that’s keeping my MC’s life small.

Or, rather, she found me.

Haha, I love this. I grew up in an old farmhouse that’s been in my family since the 1930s. When we first moved in my mom would see my great-grandma’s ghost checking in now and then. But once my mom assured her the property was safe and would be cared for, great-grandma left.

Listen to the ghosts 😁

Saaaame. I don’t want to feel isolated, but I also don’t want to talk to anyone.

Feeling a little better after an awesome nap (take that, head cold!) and managed to make this today. Happy new year, friends!

Thank you, April! I’m feeling a little better after a morning nap. Will hopefully take one more later :)

I don’t think I’ve ever been sick on NYE, but here I am in bed with a wicked head cold. No reflecting or bubbles or noon-year’s eve parties with the kiddos for me.

But that’s okay. I’ll figure out something fun to do this weekend instead.
