Samdhong Rinpoche is a Tibetan religious title. Rinpoche means "precious one". The current Samdhong Rinpoche is Lobsang Tenzin, who is considered by Tibetan buddhists to be the reincarnation of the 4th Samdhong Rinpoche.

The most famous Buddha statue in Lhasa, Tibet, is that of Jowo Rinpoche, located in the Jokhang Temple. Tibetans regard this statue as the Buddha himself. Many of them miss Jowo as much as they miss a person.

Let us meditate on the four thoughts that divert us from samsara. We are now at the third thought, which is a reflection on karmic causality. Our future existence, with its well-being and suffering, corresponds exactly to the good and bad deeds that I am currently free to perform: it is therefore now that I should act by renouncing evil and doing only good. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, Gyurme Chökyi Senge, was born in 1967, as the grandson of Kyabjé Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. A dream that Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche had one night while staying near the Bodhnath stupa indicated that his grandson was be the combined emanation of the three main lamas from Shechen Monastery who had all perished in Chinese prisons in the early sixties—the previous Shechen Rabjam, Shechen Kongtrul and Shechen Gyaltsap, Gyurme Pema Dorje. This was later confirmed by the Sixteenth Karmapa.
Shechen Rabjam began receiving teachings from his grandfather, who raised him, at the age of three. During twenty-five years, he received teachings and empowerments and attended drupchen with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He first went to the West with him in 1976.

By contemplating and reflecting on the suffering of samsara, we realize that in the cycle of existence, disappointment and suffering are somewhat guaranteed because of the link between the suffering of samsara and the cause of samsara. We have the cause of samsara within us. Indeed, there is no doubt that the cause of samsara is within us.

Meditation is one of the rare occasions when we’re not doing anything. Otherwise, we’re always doing something, we’re always thinking something, we’re always occupied. We get lost in millions of obsessions and fixations. But by meditating – by not doing anything – all these fixations are revealed and our obsessions will naturally undo themselves like a snake uncoiling itself.

"...My father and I went back to our car and drove home. The $20 my dad gave away was what we had planned to use for our own tickets. Although we didn’t see the circus that night, we felt a joy inside us that was far greater than seeing the circus.
That day, I learned the true value of giving. The Giver is greater than the Receiver.
If you want to be great, greater than life itself, learn to give. Love has nothing to do with what you expect to get, only with what you expect to give — everything.
The importance of giving and blessing others cannot be overstated because there is always joy in giving. Learn to make someone happy through acts of giving."
